Just been to Halfords to buy my regular Ad Blue to find it has gone up from £12 to £20 IN A WEEK!

I'm fortunate to be in a position that rising costs of everything aren't really a massive deal for me, but that stopped me in my tracks.

What price hikes have you noticed that have surprised you?

That's great news!

I'm self employed and have just invoiced my main client with my new prices.

They will also be falling off their chairs when they see it

It’s urea.

Most of the worlds urea comes from Ukrainian and Russia.

This time last year 46% granular urea was about 300 to 320 a tonne, it’s now around the £1000 mark.

Buy Ad blu from a petrol garage, much cheaper and easier to fill.

Last year around 95p per litre, last month £1.17

You can get it much cheaper if you look around first.

Asda had 10L for £13

Or even cheap shops like Wilko were selling 4L ones for £6.50 each.

Fuel stations are usually not bad prices either.

Ethylene glycol is derived from petroleum which is why the cost is going up. Same thing happened in the late 2000's

Ad-blue doesn’t contain ethylene glycol.

Not all garages have an Ad blu pump but check when you fill up. They are getting more common and you will get to know where they are. I think supermarkets generally don't have Ad blu pumps, independents and motorway services are more likely.

This.

The nearest garage with HGV pumps should have an adblue pump too.

Just googled it. I had no idea that this was even a thing.

From what I can tell it's urea based which again would be synthesised from petroleum.

It's a question that's on a few peoples mind.. who thought Pigs urine would be useful?

Next question is who thought it would be even a useful component?

Maybe we all need to start pissing in a bucket, keep it until the summer, and then let the water evaporate out in the sunshine. Got to be a commercial opportunity there...

How many litres Morrisons?

Is it legal to remap a car to remove the add blu I think you are not allowed to do it on commercial vehicles or at least HGVs and does it affect the emissions reading if you do.

It's made from urine mainly. Nothing to do with petroleum

It’s not pigs urine.

It’s needed because that’s how manufacturers get their engines passed for emissions control.

Without it they wouldn’t get the emissions low enough.

It's really isnt. The only way that so much could be obtained with the required purity is if it is synthesised in vast amounts.
