Recently saw a YouTuber complete the 300 squats a day challenge and was inspired to try.
I’m on day 3 and can barely walk
Anyone else trying this or any other challenges? |

"With my work , I need my legs to be pain free,. Sounds a great challenge"
It’s a tough one.
I found the plank challenge relatively easy compared to this! |

At least she’s walking! I’m sliding across the floor like I’ve pooped my pants |

Body weight squats?
I do a challenge whenever I’m in hotels to use stairs only. Im currently staying on floor 17 and the gym and pool is on floors 41 & 43 , it’s day 1 of 21, I made it so far but legs are killing already. Down is so much harder than up |

Is that many squats actually good for development of your quads? I thought it would cease to be beneficial after a certain point where anything after essentially becomes junk volume. |

No its inefficient. There's no progressive over load so you'll get fatigue before anything else.
They're good generally fitness and mental challenges rather than muscle development ones. |

My PT says research now shows all
Hypertrophy is equal so how you get to failure doesn’t really matter , the old lift heavy and low reps just makes you prone to injury. I find weighted cardio works much better than lifting heavy for me to gain strength and mass |

I get training to failure but given 300 is a lot in a day, even with just bodyweight you can be training past failure, into a fatigue stage where form becomes worse and not as beneficial. |

This isn't a hypertrophy method of training. No progressive overload, different energy system being used. This is a conditioning workout. |

That sounds brutal. I used to do a lightweight leg day where I did 20 reps for as many sets possible until failure and it used to kill me. Like literally gasping for air by the end of it.
I do wonder if you could get the same benefits by adding a little weight and doing a lot less though. |

"Sounds like a great way for an untrained individual to get injured or develop rabdo
The 4 sets for 8-12 reps thing exists for a reason. "
As long as it makes for good TikToks though eh?

"You can also try doing a month of the Murph workout
1 mile run
300 squats
200 press ups
100 pull ups (or bodyweight rows)
1 mile run.
While wearing a 10kg weight vest."
Also, you could try running 2 marathons a day if that doesn’t work
These mindlessly aimed workouts that focus more on being “bad ass” and “cool” then being realistic harm more people than they help.
That’s because, sadly, it cooler to say “300 squats a day for 1 month and you’ll have you dream body”
Than it is to say “45-60 minutes of fairly boring, difficult but not too difficult, very basic and simple exercises, 4-5 days a week, for 3-5 years, and you’ll have the body of your dreams”.
Suggesting a month of murph workouts is a sure fire way to injury 99% of the people that do it. But it’s a cool sounding workout so it gets views |

Thank you! The fact they just expect people to go from doing nothing this volume of exercise is dangerous and it's sad to see people doing them under the false pretenses of getting a better body when if anything, they'll see how hard it is, get disheartened, give up and maybe don't bother with exercise again |

Doing that every day you’d be an over trained wreck by the end of week one |

My chiropractor said these challenges are a great way if injuring yourself.
Short sharp abs and glute workouts, combined with yoga and walking works well, and has much less chance of injury. |

I wouldn't suggest anyone try it who wasn't already in decent shape. Did it last year with a few friends who are also really into their fitness.
It is absolute murder though. |

You did that every day for a month?
Do you also want to be a real boy? |

Yeah, but I also holiday in Thailand to train in Muay Thai 5 hours a day, 6 days a week, and do sprint workouts with a 20kg rucksack most weeks. |

Tuesday is leg day. That combined with cycling and targeted runs x3 a week is just right for me rather than a challenging them every day with squats. Challenges are good though if people feel compelled to show up but there needs to be notable signs of progression not just always having them feel tired. The legs need to rest when they are sore to repair the muscle damage. xx |
