You know when you are asked in a job interview "what is your weakness", how do you reply?
Obviously you don't want to put yourself down so you need to be able to say a weakness but make it into a positive. |

I usually ask “how long have you got?” |

But that doesn't make you come across as a positive person |

In an interview recently someone genuinely said they had bad time keeping in their presentation!
It's not a question I personally ask. My positive/weekness is that I care too much, and it occasionally makes it difficult for me not to take things personally. But on the other hand it makes me passionate about my job. |

I actually really like this answer, not sure I would dare say it. Maybe after I've said a serious answer I would follow it up with this. |

The interviewer is looking for your ability to highlight an area that needs improvement. Then looking for you to say that you are aware of it. And have done X Y and Z to improve it.
For example. I used to find it hard to Delegate because I want it done right. But I know I do this. So now I take the time to coach and support my co workers so they can do what’s required. This helps them develop. Me demonstrate my skills in leadership and long term allows me to have more time for my tasks.
Sorry for the long response |

"Look for something in the job description where you need experience or skills (something that isn't pivotal to the role) and use that as your weakness. " tricky tactics i like it

I'm a perfectionist (or i was!) and used to think that was a strength.. It took. Me a long time to see it was actually a weakness and definitely holding me back
My other weakeness is definitely being vulnerable... I'm very much a closed, impenetrable book.. But i do have a nice title page now and a good intro it amazing how liberating it is, when you are able to be transparent... I try to practice daily |

Just say something like, I alway want to do everything my self but over the years I've realised that I can't to everything, I've have learned to trust others to do the job as well as me and now happy to delegate only stepping in when they require my help. |

I hate that question in fact I hate job interviews I hope I never have to go to another.
If I did I'd have to tell them my weaknesses included not tolerating fools and an ability to see through stupid questions at interviews when I damn well knew they'd either made their mind up as soon as I entered the room, already had an internal applicant lined up and were just following procedure or were following some stupid point based system so the job would go to the highest scorer rather than the best person for it.
I reckon that would adequately demonstrate both my suitability for an HR role and my knowledge of interview procedure |

There are a few answers to this that you could use, but as stated above the employer wants a problem/solution answer.
Get bogged down in detail/learned to step back and evaluate.
Took on too much/completed coaching or mentoring to help delegate.
Overworked/learned better time management.
If you can find something like this and relate it to a previous job as well as how you overcame it you should be good.
Personally it took me a long time to learn how to be diplomatic. I have always been pretty fearless when it comes to communicating face to face in a work environment, which hasn't always gone well for me. People love you being honest ad long as its not with them... |

I've been to very few (none) interviews where the interview panel is prepared to answer the same question in connection with their organisation. In fact most of them take it as a negative that I want to understand that their organisation is aware of its weaknesses and is taking steps to improve on them. It's almost as if I should just shut up and accept the way they are without question. |

Now that is asserting dominance..
Interviewer: do you have any questions?
Interviewee: yes, as an organisation what do you see as your weaknesses and what are you currently doing to overcome them?
Interviewer: ..... |

I reply with, "I am generally a nice person with a desire for projects to succeed. I often find myself going above and beyond to meet clients requirements. Often to my own negative enumeration. But always apologise when 'no' is the only answer" |

"I haven't had an interview in 40 years, being headhunted removes all that ballache "
Only 16 years for me, if you don't include the fake one about 14 years ago where we all had to reapply for our jobs so they could get rid of some deadwood.
Work for myself now so hopefully never again.

Use psychology on them... "I feel my weakness is not thinking I've done enough, i mean i always want to see if i can do more, make it better, when really i should just believe, I've done my best and thats all anyone should ever ask of me" see what i did there |
