As I look at my shelves I noticed my version of trivial pursuit and a couple of versions of scrabble, both sadly unused for long while
Made me wonder if others still played suck games or is it all computer games or role playing games these days |

There is a real big boardgaming movement going on. There has been for some time now. Things have been stepping away from those seen as the traditional staple games, and there are some really good ones brought out every year. Good games to start with are settlers of catan, ticket to ride, and Dixit. Some people say Carcassonne, but I am not a fan of that. My advice is to go to your nearest travelling man and ask them to suggest some games for people wanting to get into boardgaming, and they'll pull a few suggestions of their own out. Be warned though, if the bug bites you, it can become an expensive but rewarding hobby |

"Just googled to see if I could get hold of Hero Quest. Takes me back to geeking out at lunch time at school. "
They recently released it, with additional characters and quests |

Yeah I saw £75 notes. Probably will give it a miss nobody would play it with me. Mates would be mortified |

"Has anyone heard of dobble "
Love dobble... Although it gets ver intense in our house it's not a game you can play say sedately at the table...
As has been mentioned, ticket to ride and settlers are the best games to start off with. I also love epic spell wars of the battle wizards. |

For such a simple game dobble does get rather intense as you say |

I can't talk about dobble, but munchkin has been known to make some of my friends fall out |

"Funnily enough, the most popular board game in our house at the moment is "Pandemic", it's a really good collaborative game, everyone wins or nobody does, you have to work together, really good."
It was the best selling game of 2020, oddly |

Pandemic is a superb game.
Terraforming Mars is another.
Twilight Struggle got a dusting down recently as it captures the Cold War very well.
Settler of Catan and the expansions is also very good and easy to get in to.
Terra Mystica is fun.
Arkham Horror is also recommended.
Puerto Rico is good, but not for beginners or casual play.
Power Grid is also enjoyable. I played it in Essen when it was first released and went on to win the Spiel des Jahres award. Spiel, or the Essen Game Fair is 4 days of serious gaming. A bit like Gencon, but for boardames mostly. |

"I have a Small so
Monopoly
Totopoly
Game of life
Cluedo
Have made a come back"
Good games for kids are Jamaica (galleon racing game with ship duels and stuff), and catan junior (land management/trading game simplified from settlers of catan). Both are minimum two players, which is a rarity for a lot of games these days, as there are a lot of minimum three player games now |

Twilight?
We started a very similar, maybe even the same one, where your characters had to escape back to UK from behind the "Soviet Bloc" |

Give bears Vs babies a go. You might enjoy that.
I advise getting the nsfw add on packs for both |

Doesn't sound like Twilight Struggle, I'm afraid. Though I am intrigued to know what is is !
Twilight Struggle is a fun game that captures the essence of the Cold War. It's also very educational.
Twilight Struggle's Event cards add detail and flavour to the game. They cover a vast array of historical happenings, from the Arab-Israeli conflicts of 1948 and 1967, to Vietnam and the U.S. peace movement, to the Cuban Missile Crisis and other such incidents that brought the world to the brink of nuclear annihilation. Subsystems capture the prestige-laden Space Race as well as nuclear tensions, with the possibility of game-ending nuclear war. |

"It was meant to be a team of NATO troops who sort of just bumped into each other"
Twilight 2000 Escape from Krakow ?
The Free City of Krakow is an adventure module for Twilight: 2000, which is a pen and paper RPG.
Did you have character sheets ? If so, then you were playing an RPG.
Sounds excellent by the way ! |

Yeah, think we did. We had a brief of the guy running it, an upturned Subbeteo pitch with model railway trees, buildings etc.
Cotton wool to simulate smoke grenades. He was proper into it all.
Looking back we should gave as much effort in it too |

yes, we've got B vs B too. But as my son is only 13, I'll give the NSFW version a miss for a couple of years |

At the very least, you can just take them back out. It is an arduous task but I guess it's a giggle with your adult mates when you can add a dildo arm as a weapon.
Incidentally, my friend gave me the "bear from San Francisco" card to start with, even though you're meant to deal them randomly. I feel like they know my sexuality and gender without my discussing it. That is ok though, because I do actually like them a lot, and I guess I might ride the right side if non-binary for them to be attracted back |
