Hello peeps
Well where to start, first question from the doc was, have you just been hit by a car, obviously looking at the sever bruising on my arms, quick test of my water and it was, right, off to hospital with you.
Arriving at said establishment I was greeted at the A&E by a lovely women with a wheel chair, I thought feck this is serious, so after hours of poking and prodding (not the nice sort either), quite a lot of x-rays, about an arm full of blood.
I have:-
1 Hairline fracture on my collar bone
1 Hairline fracture on my left wrist
2 cracked ribs
Damaged kidney
So, I've been advised to rest (yet hear I am back at work cause otherwise I dont get payed) discontinue my love for Martial Arts (no chance of that happening)
Thanks for your kind messages, I'm down but not out (this time anyway) |

I have to admit, when you mentioned that the doc had asked if you'd been hit by a car, i wondered if it was jans less than subtle method of getting your attention when you cycled by |

I was gonna say summat along the lines of "you cant be that good if you got battered", but then I thought back to my days of Atemi Goshin Jitsu.....
the broken nose
fractured cheekbone
spinal shock (scary)
cracked ribs..... and more black eyes and bloody noses than you can shake a shitty stick at, and I wondered why the hell I kept going back for more lol!!!

"awwww mally.
a soft hug and a big kiss
and hope you get better soon hun. "
thank peaches, right back atchya mwah!
and just for everyone else, when grading in Jiu Jitsu, at the end of proving you can do all the moves required in the syllabus, you have 15 minutes constant fighting, where every 2 minutes you get a new apponent. and it is full contact with no pads or guards so not only do you get injured, you are able to inflict injury onto others (now you see why I enjoy it so much) |

Lol!
Sounds very much like ours, only we had three 1 minute rounds on one mat, then straight onto the next mat for the next opponent, etc for 15 mins. We had to wear guards and mitts, as ours was a "combat" style of full contact, which meant head-butts, forearm smashes, strikes to the side and back of the head were all legitimate moves!!!
The local acident and emergency hospital got very busy on a sunday night lol!!!
At the end of my last grading, the Sensei picked the three biggest lads and told me I had to fight them, I thought it was one at a time, but he looked at them and said "get him!!!", it was over very quickly, but one of the most scary minutes of my life!!!
And, yes, I kicked their butts!! |

well done, as for using pads and guards, thats only in training and never in grading, its no holds barred in our club which includes strikes and pressure points, my head was purple at the end of it all and was sweating buckets, speaking to my sensei last night about it cause he was asking how I was doing and he said to me, you'd miss this place if you left wouldnt you and I said "getting kicked and punching and thrown over shoulders and slammed to the floor constantly, bloody right i'd miss it!" |

Our Sensei used to use me as his "crash test dummy" cos I was very good at break falls, but he used to demo on a wooden floor!!! Fine for punches and kicks, locks and blocks etc, but for throws..... ouch!!
As for using pads etc....... "Atemi" means "to attack the weak points", so, as we seniors all had jobs to go to, if was a good idea to minimise the risks.
It wasnt the fights that were a problem tho, it was getting used to fighting women, as ours was a mixed dojo, and any woman who stepped onto the mat was treated as an opponent just the same as the guys!! I must admit I used to get a bollocking for pulling punches etc, but i just couldnt bring myself to hit a woman full on, guess my momma raised me the right way lol!! |

I am just trying to remember what moves were banned, its not a long list lol!
Strikes to the neck (front back or sides).
Knee or fist strikes to the base of the spine.
Knee or fist strikes to the base of the skull.
Strikes to the front or side of the knees.
Tai-tcho strikes to the nose.
We were taught all these, but they were banned in sparring and full-contact bouts. Only to be used if attacked in the street....... pity the fool who did that pmsl!!
Our sensei also used to delight in teaching us "street fighting" techniques too, moves that would be frowned upon in a dojo, but would make all the difference in a street fight!!!

"hahaha and a good job she done too
sounds like our clubs are run pretty similar, its the floor work with the women most of the guys enjoy "
Lol, I once went for a standing choke hold using her Gi, she broke my grip bur her gi fell open, and she was naked underneath, my jaw hit the floor, and I stood gawping, she used that time to launch a huge kick to the head that put me down!!!

haha nice one, yes, stay focussed at all times, a lesson us guys are still learning when paired up with certain members of the opposite sex, one of our sensei teaches a lot of street fighting moves, stuff not allowed in the dojo normally but he says, its good knowledge to have even if you dont use it, although some moves have slipped in when having comps and its "OI!!!!, of the mat! haha, happened to me once, although it was just a strangle hold down, it wast the strangle, it was the way I went around it, got disqualified, a major telling off from our senior sensei and a pat on the back from the sensei who taught me the move
cant win em all as they say, gutted I wont be doing it for a while though, I still go just to watch and help out if I can though without getting involved too much. |
