I occasionally like to have a couple of weetabix but whenever I open them I end up getting bits all over the countertop how do you manage

I’m the same. The tight plastic packaging they come in is a pain in the arse.

Rip it down the seam at a tilt so the bits fall back into the wrapper

A sharp knife, in between the top two weetabix. Carefully lift off the first one & then slowly decant the rest into a plastic storage tub, teasing the paper wrapper down as you go.

Just open the packet over the plate that you're going to put the Weetabix on, then all the crumbs stay on the plate. Once you've applied the butter, you can dab up all the crumbs before eating.

Yum!

Open plastic storage tub,

carefully open Weetabix,

tip Weetabix into plastic storage tub,

crumbs also land in plastic storage tub.

Job done.

Exactly that way of opening the sleeve but I don't bother putting them in another container.

I simply shake two of them per day into my bowl with the the sleeve held well down into the bowl. That way all the current crumbs fall into the bowl and the sleeve goes back in the main box until all are emptied from it.

No debris except in the bowl.

Does it matter? You're going to munch it anyway. A bit like complaints about how the first couple of rich teas are always broken then snapping them in half to dunk

Finedon ,

"I've been to the weetabix factory - it smells lovely. "

I live near the Weetabix factory and when the wind is in the right direction I get the lovely smell full on, if on the other hand the wind is in the opposite direction I get the full on smell of the local landfill site and that does not smell nice.

Easiest solution would be don’t open them.

Mainly because they’re utterly disgusting.

Shredded wheat is truly rank. I always thought it looked like Bruce Forsyth's hair

All these wasted crumbs. They get added in the bowl when I'm having Weetabix and hot milk.
