"My causing the destruction of 100k worth of industrial machinery. please tell "
I was part of a team moving a selection of machines across town to a new facility. They were loaded onto a truck I was to drive for them. I took the word of the loader that all was good instead of visually verifying it for myself. The first corner I encountered…..yes you guessed it……it ended up on the floor in a pile of useless scrap. |

I was going to say my ex Mrs, but... I will qualify that I, myself, am my own most expensive mistake
My inability to rail in her spending and my good nature in trying to balance the books, my desire to please and my love for her are the real reasons I started the relationship solvent and ended it very nearly bankrupt
There's some patent honesty for you |

"My first child.
But before I get lynched, he's also the thing I love most (along with the other kids too of course), and is well worth the expense."
Don’t worry, I’m sure most of us can absolutely relate! |

I think nowadays the driver is responsible for the security of any load for this reason.
My most expensive mistake was buying a nice expensive house I couldn't afford in the days of self assessment mortgages. I can't believe how stupid I was. |

Didn’t cost me financially, but when I moved an hour away from my family to be with my now hubby, my brother took it hard. He hasn’t spoken to me since, and I’m missing out on a niece and nephew growing up too. Hurts like hell, but the flip side is, I’m blissfully happy with hubby, life is better for me than it’s ever been |

An ex partner.
We were never married, but when I finally walked away, I did so with only children and some clothing.
I would have rather, and still would rather, have nothing of any value than be treated that way again.

Yeah, same, buying property together, marriage, moving to another property and then another and then separating during first lockdown selling the property and now divorce looming. Ugh. But happier now than then so not all bad. Just expensive! |

"Buying a new build
•
Was it 'off plan'?"
No. It was built and came with carpets, turf and all integrated appliances. It looked and seemed absolutely perfect until covid hit. It fell to pieces and they wouldn’t come out to do repairs.
Now we’re out of the defects period so they won’t fix it now. I kicked up a fuss and they did some of the repairs but wouldn’t replace the flooring that had been damaged due to burst pipes |

Had one once. Found the floor joists weren't actually fixed correctly to the wall....thankfully NHBC made the builder repair it. There wasn't a right angle in the entire place x |

Never again. Apparently the company that built our are the best. I’d hate to see what the worst are like. |

Well, that'll be 30 to 60 miles away, hardly uncommon these days. Sorry to hear it had such an extreme effect on your sibling. |

I used to work for a builder selling the houses...I'd never buy one, especially from any of the big builders.
I would get the NHBC involved if the builder won't do repairs if I was you. |

It's a mug's game my dear fellow.
Forget marriage, kids, paintings, new builds, helicopter engines, industrial machinery, flat roofs, Shitroën DS3, fine dining, not-so-Freelander and dodgy running shoes.
Just invest £5 in Fab's site supporter pass. |

Original?

Yes. An original. About £500,000. It wasn't mine. It belonged to the auction house I worked at."

Financially, a lost cause business that’s cost me £46k.
Emotionally, a nasty relationship many years ago that I should have walked away from but didn’t, and paid the price for that. |

Other than the usual crap I brought a car a few years ago and it cost me twice as much in repairs than it did to buy it. And it wasn’t cheap either at 8k |

That’s how we got some of them done. As the flooring was part of a promotion it’s not covered. |

On behalf of others - Deleting several £m worth of transactions where energy companies used to trade excess electricity between each other by accident - oops
Personally - being shit at a job I landed that payed ridiculous money, and I had to quit after 8 months because I just couldn't do it (I'd be able to now) |

12 years ago ish, someone I knew was emmigrating to Australia and was desperate to sell his house
He'd reduced it to £80k for a quick sale and still couldn't move it
Knowing it was an absolute bargain (it was on sale at around £40k under market value) I thought about buying it and renting it out, but because of another family members issues when they rented out a property, I bottled it
The house now will be worth at least £400k |
