Felt so incensed with the shameless sacking of the seafarers ..same as I feel about Putin just lying and doing as he likes.
Is there no shame in these cheeky feckers today? Have we no answer to their antics?
P&O ..or whatever Saudi based firm they are now, should surely be bound by our employment law or pay through the nose to use our ports?
Looking forward to what Jo Maughm has to say from The Good Law Society.
Anyone else anymore input/info? |

They weren't employed in the UK, why would they be bound by UK laws? |

"Why were British workers sacked but not the Irish workers?
Made redundant.
I don't know, I don't know where they were contracted from."
Redundant? How does it fit the redundancy measures if the jobs were immediately filled by other workers? From what I read, it's legal but very unusual for an employer to do. The Good Law Project has had some good results but the man himself is - well his arrogance will get into hot water I think. |

"Security guards surrounded duty free on the ships.
Who would have helped themselves to a retirement wristwatch..."
Disgusting behaviour. Why not? They've made plenty of money fleecing people over the years |

Read this earlier:
P&O Ferries announced plans to sack 1,100 staff in May 2020 after owners DP World refuse to inject money to keep jobs.
They begged government to chip in £150m to a £250m plan to keep operations and staff levels.
BUT STILL handed out a dividend of £270M!
The Merchant Navy Ratings Pension Fund for P&O Ferries retirees has £146m deficit. DP World won't fund it.
But they paid to rename the 2022 European Golf Tour, 'the DP World Tour,' stumping up £147m prize money!
And do you know back in March 2020 when we started paying £10m for furloughed P&O Ferries staff?
Owner DP World had just agreed a deal to sponsor Formula One Renault, so they became Renault DP World.
DP World paid 35m Euros or £30m.

Because they employed UK workers to work in the UK. |

Dirty capitalist bastards. They don't care about the workers or their families. I'd get those golf clubs and stick em up the chief executive's arse |

It's not unusual. (I'm not doing a Tom Jones impression) Its almost common.
Those jobs (titles) will be redundant. A change of title and job description and it will be a new role entirely, contracted from a different company and potentially another continent. It happens. |

Hmm. Is this why some NHS staff are not now working for the NHS? So they won't be supported by regular unions etc? |

I won’t be boarding a ferry anytime soon but there is a tv show I wanted to watch tonight that P&O are sponsoring so I now won’t be watching. I might even email the tv channel - I’ve never done that before
