at haggling. Do you just pay your insurance quote or haggle. I am happy as just saved myself £250 as managed to get the renewal quote down by that much which was also cheaper than any comparison site . I am doing the phone and broadband tomorrow. Retention teams, here I come

I always ask them to give me their best price once I've received their renewal quote. I've never paid the price they ask. If they won't reduce it I go elsewhere.

Hmm usually do it with contracts just have to convince them you are ready to jump and they will be the ones begging

Also before I used to pay my credit card in full I rang the loyalty team every six months and asked them to reduce the interest rate.

"I am absolutely rubbish at haggling!!"

I used to be but decided to give it a go and it really does help. They can only say no.

Question: Anyone can advise on central heating and boiler cover? ( Current with BG but has got redicously expensive but worried to move after so many years and as the boiler is fine but quite old and not all companies accept boilers over a certain no of years old). Also on plumbing, drains and electric cover? (Currently with Home Serve and have been fine when I had a couple of emergencies but again not cheap). Ideally I would like to combine everything together. Any recs for a company with reasonable cost and service please?

"I'm rubbish"

Not always easy I understand but usually works. There is almost an expectation you should in some places and if you don't, you will end up paying a lot more than someone else who does

I always re-negotiate insurance and tv/bb package each year or change suppliers.

I always haggle, neve pay or except there anicial quote. If they can't get it reduced then I'll leave and go elsewhere. Done it with virgin the other day and they phoned me the next day giving me a much better quote and with faster broadband. When I asked what was different than yesterday he said he'd had a word with his boss.....bullshit I said but I will except the offer.

I do this. Managed to get 40 quid off my sky bill recently

Someone i know went too far with sky and threatened to go elsewhere, he assumed they would ring him with a better offer just before they switched it off and they didn’t so he ended up with no sky sports for the World Cup, he was fuming

I nearly had that with s mobile contract once as they called my bluff and said it was up to me yo leave. It was OK in the end though as I called back again after a voucher of days and someone else gave me the deal I wanted.

Yeah thats always the risk basically have to have the competitors memorised so they do you favours to stay on.Basically you have to convince them that your leaving them and this is their last chance.

Good you managed to get money of sky heard they were notoriously tight-fisted

I live haggling. Got my RAC membership recently for less than half of the quoted renewal price, with upgraded cover. I do it with Sky at the end of every contract and always either get it cheaper or get a few free months. And I never, ever just let my car insurance renew.

I call them every year and simply ask straight out for a better price for the same cover. This year they actually have me a price lower than last year despite their renewal quote being much higher. I was armed with several other quotes and pointed out that our yearly service has not taken place in a timely manner but I don't think that made any difference.

Hope you get a good price

You have to tell them you are cancelling unless they give you a certain price. They tell you quite openly that the cancellation team have access to better discounts
