Underated band's

Some seem to get all the plaudits and attention whilst others are far better and yet get little attention.
Obviously it's personal views.
So I'll start
Goldfrapp.
I don't think they have done a bad song, awesome live and Alison Goldfrapp is a brilliant front woman. The production on their song's is excellent.
The yeah yeah yeahs.
Quirky but brilliant.

"Swervedriver should have been much bigger, and Mansun were underappreciated too."
Mansun got overshadowed by kula shaker because lead singer was related to hayley Mills
Though mansun better - from my home town friends with drummer too |

How are we measuring under rated? I've heard of pretty much all the bands listed above and I'm surprised some of them have been referred to as under rated.
Do we mean haven't got many awards or seem to have a niche following or what?

The track ‘stranger’ and the video that accompanies it, is a favourite of mine. Always considered listening to more of their music, your comment and this thread will encourage me to do so.
I’ll add The Adventures and if everyone just listens to ‘Broken Land’ if you like that track you’ll probably like their back catalogue as well.
So all Simple Minds, U2 or even The Alarm (agree great group) if you like this type of music, The Adventures will be right up your street (even the ones with no name ) |

The Mission and Sisters of Mercy
If you want some good old anthemic epic guitar based stuff, they can’t be beaten. The album version of This Corrosion is awesome and over on The Mish side of the fence, Tower of Strength is possible one of the biggest sounding tunes you’ll find- yet U2 got all the attention around the same time. Wayne Hussey is a vastly underrated songwriter and musician.
Going slightly off track, I’d also nominate Liam Howlett of The Prodigy. While they’re never underrated for their music and live shows, his production skills are sadly overlooked- now go put on Fat of the land on a decent sound system and immerse yourself in someone who truly understands how to produce deep bass lines and kick drums that penetrate your very soul, crisp and clear synth hooks that inject themselves in to your bloodstream and generally give every single audio titbit crammed in to one of their tracks it’s own little space to dance. I’ve been listening to that album for the best part of 30 years and always notice something new- it’s quite possibly the best all round album ever produced |

OCS.
I know they were popular and had hits but I don’t think they were as successful or the quality of their work recognised as much as should have been.
For my money they blew Oasis and Blur into the grass and should have been way bigger than either of those. |

Romeo's Daughter - Mutt Lange produced & wrote on their debut album, it didn't go like Def Leppard's "Hysteria." Sad.... Quality tracks that have been recorded by Heart & Eddie Money; Bonnie Tyler & "Heaven In The Back Seat"; on Nightmare on Elm Street Part V soundtrack. |

McFly……
Hear me out!
They get abused but put on an awesome live show, play every instrument, rock out and also write everything for themselves and other artists.
Definitely underrated and even more undervalued! |

New Model Army
Wedding Present
The Fall
Sonic Youth
Love new model army"
Killing Joke are highly underrated too. I was happy to hear they opened for Tool on tour recently. They've grown a lot since the 80s and have a big following still. But not as big as they deserve. |
