I am not against this thread Nora but I am against people being silenced.

I wouldn't have looked in at all had someone not tried to apply censorship by demonising those that object.

Apply that to many of the horrors that go on in society. Can we really say..... if you don't like that I beat my wife don't listen. If you don't like that I starve my kids don't listen. If you don't like that I am transphobic don't comment and then go ahead and do what ever we want ?

Some people are anti animal sport... it's not illegal and this thread could have gone ahead and focused on the races but it didn't .... because the O.P. decided to make it an issue and detract from the races himself.

Me neither. It's not a merits of horse racing thread. It's like busting into a church and shouting that God doesn't exist.

It's a thread about a legal and licensed event. If people want to discuss it, have at it.

I used to work on a National Hunt yard. Exercised the horses, knew everything about their training, breeding and racing stats, looked after them and made sure they were in tip top shape when they went out. Should know exactly what to look for in a racehorse and couldn’t pick a winner if I tried - obviously not allowed to bet on my own horses.

I resort to the prettiest horse, the one with the best name or a pin in the form guide

So, if you put them at the line with no short arse on top of them, and lift the tape, are you trying to tell me theyd look at each other and say... game on... no. Why dont they bolt round a field then. Plus, they have no clue that if they get hurt, they get shot... or even if theyre not very good, they get shot.

No cuz im allergic. What do you need to know apart from shooting horses cus they cant run fast isnt wrong. Drugging horses with pain killers to hide a limp, isnt wrong. If the whip dont hurt, why is it limited to how often. And tge old one, why do tgey run when unseated jockey. They are a pack animal, and follow, pkus, as road users are well aware, they hate noise and are petrified. I may not be phd in horses, but researched enough on tgis barbarity. Would you let your kids run till their lungs bled, or put mouth bits in so they dont bite tongues off, and call that humane

I have no idea where you think you get your facts from. A racehorse is not shot because it's not good enough. Alot of time money and love goes into the care of each and every horse wether it be a hunter, show jumper, racehorse or anything else.

Each racehorse in every race is in tip top condition, feeding on the best food and suppliments, kept in the best stable with the best grazing. The horses run with the herd. It's what they love doing. Yes unfortunately some get hurt in the process but they are only put down if it means their quality of life after the injury is not how it should be. The decision to do that is not made lightly.

Personally, I live in Gloucestershire but have never been to the races. In all honesty I avoid Cheltenham like the plague during race week cause it's an absolute nightmare.

So panorama were faking tge vids of healthy 4 year old horses being executed then, just because they didnt make tge grade. And tge video of about 20 injured horses being shipped from ireland over here for 30 hours in pain un a truck to be killed wasnt real either. I can assure ours do bolt around the fields and no they don't all get shot just for not winning and that's why you see mostly the same horses returning again and again

The redness for someone to ask not for it to br discussed and people just to do it anyways.

Remember the violence against women thread last week where someone politely asked not to make it a men thing? Would everyone jump on that?

The real MVP here is OP who is just ignoring it all and having a blast in his thread! Good god you OP

Never been to the races but they look like a blast and I’d probably lose £10 and cry

Yorkshire

I would not know how to bet on the grand national even if I wanted to. Someone bought put a bet for me without even me knowing a few years back as I mentioned I liked the name of a horse and I won if I can remember rightly £160. I think I went on holiday as you could get those then for £99

Side note, I've opposed Honeysuckle based on age statistics. Race doesn't favour over 7s.

Great horse tho and I wouldn't mind being wrong!

"I used to work on a National Hunt yard. Exercised the horses, knew everything about their training, breeding and racing stats, looked after them and made sure they were in tip top shape when they went out. Should know exactly what to look for in a racehorse and couldn’t pick a winner if I tried - obviously not allowed to bet on my own horses.

I resort to the prettiest horse, the one with the best name or a pin in the form guide "

This is how I pick them, wouldn't know anything about betting as long as the horse has a nice name and looks pretty

"Love how animal cruelty is yawn yawn yawn

I work with horses, some of them are well known ex race horses that have done well and I can tell you they are far from being miss treated and they would prefer to be out racing than stuck in a stable or just standing in a field

So, if you put them at the line with no short arse on top of them, and lift the tape, are you trying to tell me theyd look at each other and say... game on... no. Why dont they bolt round a field then. Plus, they have no clue that if they get hurt, they get shot... or even if theyre not very good, they get shot.

Talking to race fans is like a brick wall though so no point. I bet you lot think bull fighting, and dog fighting is all good aswell but hey ho

As for love, did that so called top trainer have love sat on, and laughing for his picture on a dead horse. Yea, they worship them. They have been proven to drug an injured horse to hide lameness before a race also

You can't tarnish everyone with the same brush because they're in the same business, that's being nieve "

Its everyone saying all horses are looked after etc etc. Well there may be a few. But over 4000 fit horses thst werent good enough were killed tge other year. Just for being slow. Also, a horses skeleton isnt anywhere near develooed till around 4 years old, but these so called lovers feel its ok to push 2 year olds to their limits. One of my friends has 2 rescue race horses in her stables and one of them is petrified when he sees a saddle. Is that from being well treated. I cant imagine so

Why comment though? It’s happening. Some people are into it some aren’t. Go do an animal cruelty thread then! He specifically asked for this not to happen.

Naaaay - it can’t be!

When dad was alive we’d all bet on the Grand National etcas a family. Half his ashes were emptied onto the course at Aintree - the other half are with mum at the church yard.

Before she died she said knowing her luck the half she was buried with would be the half that farts! His were lethal!

Love or loathe horse racing it also creates a lot of income for local economy around the country.

Hospitality, hotels, the travel industry etc etc.

I would think any hotelier around Cheltenham, Epsom, Aintree will be very happy after 2 lean years.

Was about to say same. My bet for the week would be at least 4 fatalities, and not one will be the shortarse that causes it

I just hope there are no hurt/dead horses x

Didn't pray hard enough! 4 dead it seems! x

You made your point in the other 7 posts.

It finished Friday."

And??? X

Why comment though? It’s happening. Some people are into it some aren’t. Go do an animal cruelty thread then! He specifically asked for this not to happen.

Exactly that.

That comment seemed more like an attempt at a trigger than a genuine plea to remain on track.

Exactly my thoughts! X

Oh Dear! I bet the OP is rolling his eyes!"

4 horses died for goodness sake

Genuine question.

Do you believe the sport is inherently cruel by definition or whether it is something that isn't cruel but poses an unnecessarily high risk to participants?

Think it's very cruel yes! Don't really care about the riders risks ! But the horses yes! Feel the same about dog races as well! X
