The danger of a good role

I had a look at 'Inventing Anna' last night

The lead actress, Julia Garner, made famous playing 'Ruth' in Ozark

I really struggled with it because I just kept seeing 'Ruth' and I just couldn't get past it

Can you think of any other actors so closely linked to their characters that you struggle to see them in other roles?

Carrie Fisher. She has been in a number of films but she will always be Princess Leia to me.

I think this is where great acting comes into it.

Some actors are the character; some are themselves playing a character.

I can't see anyone else as Hercule Poirot, other than David Suchet.

"I can't see anyone else as Hercule Poirot, other than David Suchet. "

I also thought David Suchet was fantastic in The Way we Live Now, so I can see him in other things without immediately thinking he's Poirot.

I tried to watch Maigret but I couldn't take Rowan Atkinson in a serious role. I kept waiting for Blackadder/Mr Bean/Johnny English. I had to give up on it, I just couldn't move past it.
