"Rod Stewart has been seen helping to repair potholes near his Essex home. The council is asking all residents not to do this and leave it to the authorities. But then we would wait forever. "
The Council ? They're only afraid in case someone claims, that's the only reason they're saying this . |

He did just scatter loose stones and gravel whilst making sure a camera was pointed into his face. Little bit cringey….which isn’t out of character for Rod |

Somebody should have told him to keep his smoking jacket on and crawl back into his lair, You can’t repair a pothole with loose stones and whatever he decides to top it with, one good winter and he will be smashing his Bentley wheels again |

If I did that I would have to shut about 40% of Gloucestershire, and stick plants in the holes and trees in the craters....
Mind you there's so many craters I could probably replace the Amazon... |

For all those that disparage Sir
Rod
He go down in history as a
Fine swordsman and song writer
But as his wife is now a policewoman .or officer for those are picky over names .
Maybe rod thought he help the community instead of playing with
His train set. |

That and the fact it will take more time and money to repair them now they have to remove the "repair" that's just been done |

"Was he singing " the first hole is the deepest"
Yes. And he got in the paper for filling a pothole … some guys have all the luck "
At least in not in for the killing of Georgie or murdering some of the American song book clasics |

I get the frustration and if someone qualified was doing the work on a private drive then I’m sure people wouldn’t mind. But Rod Stewart didn’t appear to be doing that With his finances I’m sure he could just pay someone to do it. It is not the point, but if the appropriate people weren’t doing it within fair timescales, then I’d just pay or ask any of the other residents if they fancy chipping in etc.
It is a sad story to make the news though |

On a general point though, we should all be putting some pressure on councils to do something about potholes. The situation is quite unbearable in some areas. We all appreciate the financial constraints but it's annoying to see the money and effort wasted on inappropriate repairs that don't even last a week. Who is checking the work done? It's atrocious most of the time. |

Trouble is, we voted in the people who cut local councils' budgets by £billions, so this is what the public want |

Which is ironic as its probably the amazon juggernauts creating them |

Person highlights the shocking and unsafe state of many of our highways and verges and the dreadful job most (not all) local authorities do in maintaining safe high ways... And gets criticised for it. |

Why is the tarmac on our roads so easily broken? It has a rough / course texture, unlike the roads I've driven on in France, Spain etc.
Is the UK tarmac different? I'm sure someone one here will know the answer |

I think a lot of it is to do with how the surfaces are laid and repaired more than the materials used. It's farmed out to the cheapest bidder, rarely if ever checked and pothole repairs in my area last less than a year on the main road. Just spray a pretty colour round it... throw a bit of hot tarmac in and tamp it down for a few minutes... Seems to be what they do here. Highways maintenence around here is next to zero. |

Absolute what they do. Nobody really cares to check anything and pot hole repairs are also pot luck depending where you live. They recently resurfaced a side road here that had hardly any reason to and have left for years the main road in total disrepair apart from the odd hole the filled just the way you described which lasted a few weeks at most. |

"I am seeing whole brand new surfaces crumbling in weeks around here.. the top layer is as thin as the ham in a British Rail sandwich"
Wonder why it doesnt last ? What could it possibly be? If only some super intelligent person could find a better way to maintain our highways better |

Will be the weather
We are wetter than Spain. As soon as water gets beneath the top layer it becomes an issue in the winter when that water freezes, expands and causes bigger cracks.
Admittedly colder countries might have a better solution. |
