HIIT training

Who does it? Did you see results?

I'm on a bit of a health kick, trying to get in better shape. I just started adding in HIIT routines from a certain popular vid sharing site. It looks easy, but it's bloody hard work.

I did it for around a year didn't actually notice any results unfortunately.

My masters was based on hiit. I've done a good few presentations on it. I did it for quite a while when I was younger and would recommend it. Heart rate monitor isnt a bad buy either if doing on something stationary

Love it. But I noticed results in terms of me getting fitter and not actually losing weight or toning as I didn't couple it with calorie counting.

I decided try it in first lockdown just to be active and stop boredom. I was doing 3 x 10 minutes a day. Morning. Afternoon as and evening, I lost 2 stone but never planned. Maybe was just to much, especially when I was going for long walks too. It was anything to help pass the days . I stopped after 8months

Its frickin awesome if you can stick at it.. I did a daily programme around three years ago and looked the best I've ever looked.. Its hard work tho

Feels much easier to me than just solid running.

When I'm on an exercise buzz I usually do it a few days of the week mixed in, and I do lose weight but not sure of it makes a massive difference as I'd still lose weight if I was just doing solid running.

True hiit training is tough. No one likes it. Most do interval training and call it hiit

That being said, it has some good cardio benefits, better ability to potentially build muscle that regular liss and it takes less time and is less boring than liss

The cons are how incredibly hard it is and it’s increased rate of injury

I’ve always done 80/20 so 80% in heart rate zone 2 which is fat burning and endurance and 20% in zone 4/5/6

It’s best building a base first then your body can cope with the higher more demanding stuff.

Best getting a chest heart rate monitor and working out your max heart rate.

Spend more time in aerobic than anaerobic

i did HIIT youbtube videos x5 a week for about 6 months.

growninganannas was her name i think

50 seconds on 10 seconds off for 30mins.

found it hard going but core strength improved and bit of cardio. did nothing for weight loss.

I (mr) do a lot of HIIT/interval training in each session.

I wouldn’t look at it for losing weight, more for increased fitness/better cv health

It’s not something I’ve done purely alone but with a program which included weights as well as running.

I lost 3 stone and felt great. Now gained just over a stone so need to shift it so starting it all again.

I prefer normal interval training … couple of minutes hard activity followed by rest period, letting the heart rate come down properly before starting the next interval. The biggest mistake people make when doing this is not going easy enough in the recovery period. Proper recovery allows you to go hard at the next interval.

Great for building fitness and stamina. Very effective

Never done it in my life , looks fierce hard but good luck to those that do , l just do what's easy and handiest for me , gone way past spending days to recover , nice n easy will do me , so huge Salute to those that do things like HIIT.

Best to do the lesser interval training for about four months and then start the HIIT, for some people it doesn’t give dramatic leaning or weight loss but cardio ability goes through the roof

I've been doing HIIT at a specialist gym for 6 months and seen dramatic changes.... losing inches off my waist, and losing weight, toning up and feeling far fitter than I've done in the last 30 years.

There is small numbers on the group, superb demonstration and supervision from 2 coaches abd nutritional and motivational advise. I wouldn't attempt it without the gyms support, but it's really worked for me.

Yes it is very intense, and not really suitable as a starting point.

Safer to start with a less intense version, Semi High Intensity Interval Training. Quite safe to have a good SHIIT once every day, most people find mornings the best.

While hiit is very effective, a mistake a lot of people make is to do too much of it.

Runners, rowers etc do the vast majority of their mileage at low intensity levels, rounded out with some speed work.

Hiit is not something people should do every day, and if should not be the main building block in a fitness programme.

I'm not actually overweight or unfit as such. Just trying to get back in better shape like I used to be.

Ideally I want to put some more muscle back on and tone it. + improve cardiovascular fitness.

I don't do it, mainly because I find the high intensity part is rarely going at 100%.

I prefer steady state cardio such as walking, light jogging or going on the cross trainer for an extended period

As previously mentioned true HIIT you can’t do for much longer than the Tabata protocol. It’s about 100% maximum effort for the interval and trust me if you go all out then four mins is enough 8 x 20 secs work 10 secs rest

Anything else like circuits and less than max heart rate during the interval is just interval training. IMO anyway …not high intensity interval training.

In summary it’s fantastic for cardio and possible epoc (some even debate if this is actually a thing) and much less time consuming that log steady state cardio..like a long run. But it’s sports specific..no point doing hiit if you’re planning on running a marathon you’ll bonk at ten miles badly

HIIT has always worked for me as supplement to other training. Also feels awesome afterwards. However as it get older my knees are worn and I just pick up more injuries. So I've come to realise it need to modify my training for less impact. So like with my other training I find I have to be careful of the sort of activities I do and modify things.

I coach hit classes and trained HIIT a few years and it’s a great way to burn body fat

You get out of it what you put in

I think it's really effective, for me and my goals at least. Have neglected it a bit recently but need to it back into my routine as keen to get a little leaner and HIIT normally helps me with that...
