"Thoughts?"
There's a channel on YouTube called Cool Worlds that has some videos with some interesting thoughts.
Personally, I have wondered for a long time "what if we're first"? After all someone has to be.
Using their current methods, I think it highly unlikely that SETI would discover anything even if there is life out there.
I do enjoy a good fuck on the SETI though |

That’s my thinking as well we could indeed be the first and given the time scales and if we survive we could populate the whole galaxy |

The first race to use Van Neumann machine architecture to build self-reproducing probes to transport genetic material will fill the entire galaxy with an expanding sphere of their life forms. Given the timescale for evolution of intelligent life from scratch, it is unlikely that two different races would be around at overlapping times for seeding to start from two different places and meet in the middle. Whoever starts first will inevitably totally eradicate any possibility of independent lifeforms sharing the same space at the same time.
We haven't been eaten by alien nano machines yet, so that means either that someone else has already wiped out most of the galaxy but just not got here yet, or we are going to be the first to do it, or humans are going to fuck up and go extinct leaving the stars to whoever comes next from wherever. |

What if aliens use another method we haven't discovered? |

Looking around at what's going on in the world today I'd put forward an argument saying that we're seeing the Great Filter in progress. |
