Talk of Syrian mercinaries being recruited to fight for Putin. It's ramping up to a world war. There will be atrocities on both sides. One refugee was collected at the border by a 'volunteer' and brutally assaulted. This won't end well... |

I wouldn't be surprised, given how much support Russia (incl their mercenaries) have given the Assad regime, but would have thought they still had their hands full in Syria!
I may be being optimistic, but I still don't think this will escalate to a "World War" (i.e. direct conflict between Russia and the US/NATO), but no less horrific and tragic for that. I tend to agree with you OP that there are no easy or pleasant endings, not least for the Ukrainians bearing the brunt. |

"When the money runs out, let’s see how willing those merc’s are to lay their lives on the line. "
The money won’t run out he will starve the Russian people to keep them going and kill any Russian brave enough to actually stand up for their country. |

With Russia now seeming to be running out of cannon fodder to actually take cities in ukraine mercenaries won't want to go into an urban environment. Especially whilst still winter in ukraine and well below 0 with snow etc. Add to this the rhetoric coming from Russia about chemical and biological weapons is it a prelude to Russia using these in Europe after they have in Syria ? And will the west sit back and watch it happen or commit an act Russia deems as an act of war like supplying ukraine with aircraft or long range air defences ? Ukraine has over 2000 POWs killed over 10000 Russians captured or destroyed massive amounts of the Russian forces kit including 20 million dollar air defence systems. Looks like Russia is getting desperate and a desperate person in a cor era often doesn't act rationally so ww3 is a possibility.. |

The BBC have an interview with a former member of Wagner Group. He tells that the general quality of the recruits and their discipline are all very poor. Me thinks that Putin is only using them as cannon fodder so that if they get injured, captured or accused of war crimes they are deniable assests. |

Putin is keeping the bulk of his highly trained and valued forces back allowing conscripts and non nationals to be expended.
Then if he is too use non conventional weapons he won't loose too much sleep killing his own forces.
