Correct on Echidna. I was actually thinking of a different mammal. Turns out there are 2 mammals that lay eggs.

Correct all those that said Venus. Venus has a thick atmosphere of Carbon Dioxide causing an accelerated green house effect. Mercury, although closer to the Sun, has no atmosphere. |

Kinda.....
The Islets are groups of different types of pancreatic cell, which secrete various hormones. Among them are alpha cells (secrete glucagon), beta cells (secrete insulin), plus other cells that secrete things like ghrelin and stomatostatin. Insulin reduces blood sugar levels by converting glucose to glycogen. Glucagon releases the glucose stored in glycogen. |

Venus comes in hotter than Mercury, because of its run-away greenhouse effect atmosphere making it bloody hot all over.
Mercury is hot on the side where it's daytime, but the nighttime side is colder than a witches tit (any Wiccans on fab, no offense is meant, please insert coldness simile of own choice here). The Mercury day length is nearly six earth months so it gets plenty of time for the sunny side to get hot, but also plenty of time for the dark side to get very cold again. At one time it was thought that Mercury always had the same side facing the sun (like our moon has the same side always facing the earth) but it does in fact have a slow rotation. One very bizarre thing about the Mercury day length though is that it is longer than the Mercury year (the time it takes for Mercury to go around the sun) - in fact the Mercury day is equal in length to two Mercury years...
Venus though shows how the earth might well end up if we don't stop fucking up the climate. Once past a particular temperature point, enough of the oceans evaporate for the water vapour to increase the greenhouse effect, causing the temperature to rise more and even more of the oceans to evaporate, causing it to get even warmer. Once this happens there is no way back, short of massive cooling of the sun. Of course we're all dead if that happens, so nobody would be around to worry about it... |

It's a measure of the amount of energy released during an earthquake... it's a logarithmic scale ... in that a single increase point .. ie from 3 to 4 means the amount of energy released is 100 times more ... or something like that |

It's a logarithmic scale, where a value increase of 1 corresponds to a factor of ten more shaking. (I think it's a ten base logarithm, rather than e based or 2 based). Hence a Richter 3 quake can only be noticed by measurement instruments, a Richter 4 gives a little jiggle than you can feel, at 5 all the ornaments will fall off your mantelpiece and car alarms will all be honking, at 6 buildings fall down... |

Yes the best way to eplain the log system is with money
A single 1p, 10p, £1 coins are laid from left to right. then a £10 note, £100 pound note, are then laid to the right again, now lay down a £1,000 cheque and a 10,000 cheque.
So if you start at the left (a penny), then move to position two (10p), you will have moved one space but have moved to something that's 10 times more valuable/powerful.

You’re thinking of a monotreme (“one hole” in ancient Greek).
A trireme is an early type of ship. (Latin this time, referring to the three banks of rowers). Much like the echidna was made famous by the video game Sonic, triremes will be familiar to lovers of Sid Meyer’s Civilisation games. |
