Sorry Mr “It’s all over the news!” if I’ve stolen your thunder by quoting a news article, but a survey of 18-30 year olds has resulted in a top 20 of British foods they say they’ve never tried.
The article says they suggest that their tastes in food are much more sophisticated than their parents.
So, what’s your count on this list?
I have to say there’s only 3 things on this list I haven’t tried, the Jellied Eels, Kedgeree and the liquor bit of Pie, Mash and liquor.
Anyway tell me, Fabsters, what you think of the list.

11. Spotted dick 31%
12. Saveloy sausage and chips 30%
13. Lancashire hot pot 30%
14. Steak and kidney pudding 7%

Well I've done all of them, although Gammon with or without a pineapple ring will never pass my lips again.
When they finally catch up with me and ask me what I want for my last meal, I'll be having the liver and onions followed by bread and butter pudding please  |

Exactly the same as you Dan.
Most of it I wouldn't choose to eat though, but it's what we had to eat as kids as there were less options.
Kids these days are lucky (in this way) as have so much more choice. |

Really? Gammon if done right (so not in 90% of pubs) is beautiful.
I have a slow cooked, honey glazed gammon every Christmas. Takes about 32 hours to prep and cook, which I guess is why pub ones are a bit ropey. |

I’ve got a gammon in my slow cooker today. I just tip a can of Coke on top of it. Lovely. No pineapple though  |

The jellied eels and pie, mash & liquor can go straight in the bin. Everything else I've tried but wouldn't eat the haggis or liver again. I'm really a meat lover so give me the gammon and steak anytime. |

There's quite a few of those I've not tried. No intention of trying jellied eels!!
Pork pie being on there is a surprise. Every tea party you can imagine has a pork pie of some type |

I really am very adventurous with food and always happy to try things several times and cooked different ways just in case I haven't had it the 'right' way before or even if my tastes have changed. I was in my 40s before I finally found some squid that I like ( fresh ess being the key with that one)
But Gammon I'm really struggling with. My son is a great cook and he did the honey glazed slow cooked Gammon for me and while it was a thousand times better than the wretched stuff you get as pub grub, it still didn't really do it for me.

Agreed. No pineapple.
It's the devil's fruit!
I find the best thing with Gammon is to leave it soaking overnight, to draw out the salt. Have to keep changing the water too. |

I’m not sure why “steak, well-done” qualifies as a separate foodstuff compared to “steak, cooked properly”.
The list of foods which I haven’t eaten badly-cooked versions of would be very long indeed. |

This morning I would have said tried all of them, now just one I haven’t, Baked Alaska, not what I thought it was.
Although not a fan of most, upbringing of try everything put in front of you don’t ask questions, even if you’ve tried it before. Only 6 of them I’d eat now, 2 more if I could leave out one ingredient |

Apart from these I've had every thing and enjoyed them though given choice I'd have my steak medium rare or even rare depending on the cut |

But I'm in Wales so not a local delicacy.
I used to try most things as I worked in a kitchen, but I get more choosy as I get older... Same with everything now.

Only ever had it cold, it was alright but like all other cold packaged meats, I don’t have to eat it anymore. The only one I still eat from childhood is a good haslet |

Think my kids have tried all apart from jellied eels, I believe they should try things, if they don't like it at least they tried.
They are 16 and 19 and because I got them to try loads of things never been fussy eaters. |
