"Still going up here. I'm seriously considering getting my car remapped for increased fuel economy.
Anybody else had this done? Is it worth it? "
It's absolutely scandalous here , the Government has always taken over 60%..60%.. in tax from the petrol and diesel sales here...white collar crime if there ever was . |

£1.61 I paid today, £2 by summer.
All of the undecided need to hurry up and buy the electric car the government want them to buy, once everyone is driving electric, diesel will be cheap again.

I guess so, but it won't go down by much. Yes demand will fall but supply is still running low and those petroleum companies (and politicians who have stakes in them) wouldn't want the price to drop much lower as it will effect their profits. |

It's an unfair tax I think. It does not take into account the ability to pay it. You might need to travel a great distance for work and pay a far higher % of wages than someone further up the salary scale. |

Mapping may help if you drive in your usual manner, but you'll be surprised how much a difference the correct tyre pressures and regular servicing can make |

I’ve just ordered a dual petrol/lpg car, so just need to find the only 3 lpg stations within 15 miles and I should be ok so long as plan ahead to fuel when I can rather than when I need to, LPG is about half the price of petrol right now |

It's going up at a scary rate. £165 per week on fuel for my husband and I already. That's a huge expense.
Perhaps the government should cut the VAT rate on fuel, until the price can level out at least. |

"The problem with electric cars other than logistics is you can bet the "tax" will transfer "
Exactly, they have to balance the books somehow, and pay for an ageing and expensive population, plus dealing with the threat of climate change.........
I will just vote for legalised euthanasia, or maybe even compulsory lol.

AdBlue for diesels about to suffer an 84% percent price rise from the main UK supplier. That's gonna sting on top of the diesel increase too. Will push a 10 litre drum up over £30 based on current retails of about £16-£18. Still cheaper than limp home mode & recovery charge! |

Oil companies really profiteering in 2020 when a barrel was trading at less than 40 dollars. It's now trading at about 130.
Did anyone see petrol at 50p a litre in 2020?
I didn't think so.
Always quick to hike prices up and very slow to bring them back down again.
Perhaps I should buy some shares in BP and Shell

A remap will get you more MPG if you drive sensibly but if you put your foot down there will be more which will use more fuel !!
So yes but drive nicely !!
Make sure your tyres are the correct pressure and when you change them look for ones that offer better MPG!
I drive a 6L petrol and after the remap the mpg went up by 1 m, so now get 25 MPG on a run. |

Get some perspective people.
My thoughts exactly.
"
But we only use 4 percent of Russian oil ? Or there doing is funding Russias campaign! Giving them more money! |

I’ve heard it really helps; different cars get different results though.
Can’t do it with mine as under warranty.
Hear you on the fuel front though. Mine needs super unleaded, and is currently costing £1.85p a litre.
Interestingly, price of oil dropped 17% yesterday - bet it doesn’t feed through to the forecourt though. |

Oh please! No one has said the situation with fuel costs is worse than what's happening in Ukraine but it is something that is impacting people on this country. Why can't we discuss without pious people implying we have no perspective on world events?
The cost of fuel and lack of increase on wages will cause some to struggle to get to work which will impact them in very real ways. |

We have become a nation of whingers simple as that.
As for me being pious, it would be a hard sell to describe me as that with my views on religion. |

"Just cheack tyre pressures (low pressure decreases economy & change your driving style, ultimately that will make the most difference "
Definitely this. Smoother acceleration, smoother on the brakes too. Drive at 70mph on the motorway instead of 80 for a change, see the difference
Most people know the mpg rating of their car, but they ignore the fact this is based on driving at 56mph…… |

And many power stations burn gas to create electricity so that'll rise but at present yes the government only screw over petrol & diesel car users with duty & then vat. |

We went away last week to cornwall, before we left the prices were 1.55-160 a litre for diesel got back off holiday and the same garages are now asking 179.9- 189.9, they are puttying 8-10p a time on a litre now.

The price of crude oil is only a tiny fraction of the price at the pump.
The bulk of the cost is Duty and VAT.
However, the biggest “real” component is the cost of refining and distribution. This process uses a significant amount of energy, the cost of which has increased by 50%.
I don’t think that greed is a contributory factor. You could wipe out the petrol stations’ profits entirely and not see a price drop of more than a penny or two. |

"Passed 2 petrol stations yesterday, directly opposite each other. 1 side was 12p/L more expensive.
This dramatic rise is fueled by greed only. "
There may be a significant difference in their supply contract price.
I had a friend with an independent garage that had forecourt fuel sales.
He couldn’t buy it in for the price that a local Morrison’s was selling it at.
Things are not always as simple as they first appear.
Doubtless there are instances of people taking advantage. |

Don’t forget to tell your insurance company if you do remap your cars.
I’m pleased I got rid of my 2 litre petrol car 6 months ago and went hybrid. Currently getting between 65 and 70 mpg. Compared to 32.
