Are you a hoarder do you hold on to thing's that you should really throw away. My garage is full of stuff that hubby think's may come in handy one day, I think he should get rid of most of it and just buy some stuff when he needs it, as he hardly ever needs to fix anything.

Do you keep stuff just in case or buy it if you need it?

No I spent all my childhood and most of my adult life moving from country to country you can't be a horder if you do that.

Mrs would be but if I gave her the chance.

Probably more on the hoarder side.

I prefer to call it collecting. Books etc.

"Photographs of family and holidays. Also kept all my old school reports and a few childhood presents."

Sentimental hoarder. I can relate.

I find it quite easy to go through other stuff and recycle/throw away

I have cleared the home of a hoarder twice. The psychological experience is fascinating. There’s a lot more to it than just hoarding.

That's fair enough I keep stuff like that as well.

I do keep some things around longer than is probably needed. A good purge happens regularly though.

Few years ago I used to live next door to an extreme hoarder, all the neighbours were unfriendly to her but I showed her kindness and used to speak to her a lot. Her whole life evolved round everything piled up inside and outside her door, right down to scraps of paper and old food. It was a powerful psychological condition and I felt sorry for her.

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I have a tendency towards keeping things. And I have in the past used "stuff" as a replacement for happiness, affection, love etc especially in relationships. Which sounds weird to say or write down. But actually isn't that uncommon.

However. I've been having a real purge over the last 6 months or so when I've been able. And it feels good.

I keep sentimental things (some of the stuff my lo has presented me with, family pics about or over 100 years old etc) but everything else I'm now trying to get rid off

My Little Pony stuff sold well but has now stopped so is off to auction

Same with teddy bears

Most Disney Traditions now gone too

Need to make a start on the paperweight collection next

I used to love having all my gubbage around me and will always buy from charity shops but I don't have the same "want" for it anymore.

I am both!

Ruthless with house stuff, clothes etc.

I hate seeing useful stuff get binned though, so I keep everything with even the slightest possible use for my classic cars for years.

Also - people complain about the price of wood now. Simple! Find your nearest skip, it’ll be full of the stuff. Haven’t bought any in years.

I think you're right. We've also cleared the homes of a couple of hoarders and it's a bit like peeling an onion, there are always more layers to be found!

I'm the opposite of a hoarder as I love chucking crap away. I've also discovered how easy it is to sell stuff online.I might think that something is worthless but there's usually somebody out there willing to pay for it!

I'm certainly a hoarder, I love to collect things but before you ask it's not tat, I'm like a magpie, think I inherited the hoarding instinct from my dad as he was the same. It has cost me a relationship in the past however but my collections came first to be fair, she had got herself stuck in the garage but entered by the wrong door being in a rush. I have everything from a 14th century church font 100's of rare books, magazines, film collectibles, model collections, original art, a 7ft velociraptor, a BBC dalek more books, antique furniture workshop machinery, a few old cars motorcycles, I believe around 15 vintage bicycles. 100's of vinyl albums, fossil and gemstone collections, old designer clothes, Aviation collectibles, 100's of model kits, coin collections, specialist medical machinery and instruments, tribal art, masks, old bottles, various animal skulls, a 11ft swordfish. Sorry for listing some of it, needed to get it off my chest to carry on collecting ( it helps me psychologically) Lol xx

Quite a few sentimental stuff for sure. Also specific things that I may be collecting. Other than that, try to recycle, donate or get rid as appropriate.

but that's some interesting stuff you have there: 7ft velociraptor and dalek, awesome.

I am a hoarder, I have collections of looney tunes statues, they look cool individually, but crazy in large numbers.

I also keep stuff I think will be useful, and to be fair when neighbours are looking for stuff I often have it to help them out. I also keep stuff thinking some day it might be valuable.

"he saves what others throw away, he says that he'll be rich some day" - points for song reference; seemed appropriate.

Well I'm happy that there are loads of you who buy stuff then get rid of it quickly, not because you're damaging the earth's resources but because I can get it for free or for little cost.

So much I'm my home that's used or utilised frequently, has not needed to be paid for or bought new.

Please don't stop your wasteful purchases, they really benefit me!

No i hate clutter. i dont over buy, and keep things minimal, if ive not worn it in 6 months it goes to charity, if i dont use something i generally gift it on selling pages. I hate clutter and stuff that collects dust or kept for a rainy day. If a electrical item breaks thats out of warrenty ill generally get it repaired.

"I have cleared the home of a hoarder twice. The psychological experience is fascinating. There’s a lot more to it than just hoarding. "

Similar thing here for deceased family. I had three tubs: Recycle, Bin, Keep. The last one then would be gone through again. It is an insight into a life with some smiles and some tears.

I’m probably regarded by some as a bit of a hoarder myself. I don’t prescribe to the thing about “if you haven’t used it in 6.. 18 months get rid” what about fire extinguishers or car insurance? There genuinely are items that may be very useful in time to come.

I'm not a hoarder but I definitely have more things than I need. We have clutter and collections

I deal with hoarding sometimes through work. It's a mental health problem and very difficult to manage in a way that makes the hoader safe without having a detrimental impact on their wellbeing.

Finedon ,

Working on the assumption that when I finally go to meet my maker my daughter will put a skip on the drive and get rid of everthing.

I am now having a purge on the basis that if I have not used it in the last 12 months it has to go. To achieve this I have 3 options:

Sell it on Ebay if suitable.

Give it to Charity if acceptable

Last resort a trip to the tip.

So far I have raied a four figure sum for stuff sold on Ebay.
