Who cleans the house thoroughly before they go on holidays

Hubby always has a moan at me because I clean for day's before going on holidays. He says who are you cleaning for the burglar's. Who else does this and why?

I was about to say the exact same thing. Shame all that cleaning won't stop people jamming your letterbox with flyers so everyone knows you're not in

"Iv not been on holiday since i was about 25"

If you had though, would you clean the house for burglars?

I'd maybe do a Home Alone and set traps instead, see what hubby says then

I do exactly this, even change all beds, it’s nice to come home to a tidy house, knowing there’s nothing to do for a couple of days at least, apart from the holiday laundry.

Did police use it for forensics, catch the thief brown-handed

Always nice to come back to a clean home, fresh linen, a nice cooked meal in the freezer etc. Best doing it before than when you get back. When you get back from a holiday you want to put your feet up and relax.

Cleanish.

Bleach the toilets, tidy up, empty the fridge. Most importantly fresh sheets on the bed, I love coming home to my own bed

Top tip, change your bed sheets and duvet cover before you go. Nothing like fresh linen on your own bed when you get home

I loathe coming home to a disordered house but I don't clean for days beforehand.

As long as I can get a cup of coffee and get into my own clean bed, all is good.

Exactly, no one wants to come home to a smelly loo. Also, after getting all chilled out on holiday, it's nice to get home and know that you don't have to clean for a few days - keep that holiday feeling going for just a little bit longer.

I do. Or book the cleaner in to do it. If I’m on holiday, chances are someone will be in my home looking after the furry feckers. So it has to be clean. But even if I don’t have a house sitter in, coming home from holiday is bad enough without it being a shit-tip!

If I went on holiday I would tidy for this reason

I always tidy up, might not be full and thorough but I make sure its not in bad knick for when I get back.

My mum did this. And she’d pop the plugs in the sinks/bath to stop spiders moving in.

My mother did this before we went on our summer holiday when we were teenagers. Cleaned, hoovered, dusted, changed the beds. It was all done the night before we went away at stupid o'clock to go to the airport

I do the usual housework and stock up on whatever the dog sitters need.

I make sure I'm coming home to fresh bedding.
