Movie and show characters, both heroes and villains.
We are meant to feel a certain way about these characters. Almost expected to support the heroes and hate the villains.
Some movies/shows blur the lines slightly and make you try to empathise with a villain but that's intentional in the writers part.
Which characters do you feel the opposite about. Which heroes/protagonist do you really not like, and which villains/antagonist do you find yourself liking when you really should not?
Anti-heroes don't count! |

Captain America. Sure, just let these overpowered human beings run amok, causing irreparable damage to buildings and cities without consequence because we should be grateful they're saving us from aliens that target them in the first place ![](/icons/s/rolleyes.gif) |

When I was a kid - and still these days, to a degree - I remember caring about the animals in a film more than the humans.
When watching Tarzan, I used to cheer on the crocodiles he was wrestling
This isn’t really what you asked OP, is it? |

I still do. Any movie that has people or animals in danger, I get nervous for the animal. Could not give a fuck what happens to the people so long as the animal survives. |

The one that springs to mind is Shelley Duvall’s character in The Shining. I was rooting for Jack to catch her and stop that squealing and snivelling. Not that she was a hero but he was sort of the baddie - I’ve held that inside for a long time and it feels better to get it off my chest ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Totally. I got really anxious about it as a kid. My parents used to have to make up shite just to appease me.
- of course that’s not real animal blood. It’s human!
- the cat doesn’t get trapped in the house fire. It found an open window and jumped through.
- the dog definitely found its way home, I swear.

"Hades.
He's clearly meant to be evil, the very personification of it but my heart and vagina goes out to him a bit. Trapped in a role, almost Dallowayesque.
Which version of him? "
Let's see - Disney, musical (Hadestown), Hercules the TV show (do you remember Hercules and Xena? Absolutely loved that), in Wonder Woman... I'm going to stop now. There is however a beautiful depiction of him in this web comic I read which is kind of sad but it appeals to my mythos love. |

Is that less about the character and more about the situation involving the premise of superheroes though?
Not always the case. The Avengers for example, the invasion was going to happen regardless of heroes or not. Things would have been worse if they were not there to stop it but I agree with the point you are making. The whole point of the (very bare bones version) of a Civil War. |

I’m from Glasgow originally, and we bloody love an underdog. So characters like Joachim Phoenix in the Joker give me such a sore heart. I can’t begin to say how bad I felt for him, and thought about it for ages afterwards.
I also really felt for Charlize Theron’s character in Monster. |

"I could never stand Captain Kirk,I guess he was meant to be a hero?
Spike was always the best character from Buffy the vampire slayer"
Season 2 Spike is a perfect example of this. He was liked so much he went from a 1 season casting to perma cast member. Problem is after season 2 he stopped being a villain and was anti-hero by design. |

"Joaquin Phoenix portrayal of The Joker.
"
A tricky one because that was sort of what they intended. Make you feel for the bad guy, understand why he became the Joker. You saw how he was treated, empathise with him, and "agree" with his actions because you felt the pain that caused him to do them. |

If none of that were shown, he would very likely not be viewed as likable and you would be rooting for the hero to take him out. |

"Joaquin Phoenix portrayal of The Joker.
Absolutely superb example of this
NBVN x"
While I don't fully disagree, see above for why it's not as simple as Joker being the "villain" that you shouldn't like but do. |

"Thanos. Half the population are cunts.
Also from Avengers, Loki has always been likeable even before his sort of redemption story."
Not as intentional as the Joker one, but very similar in that you witness his change and fully understand why he goes the route of hate. However it was not intended for him to been seen as likable as he was, Tom Hiddleston's performance charisma saw to that. |

"I actually don't like Batman, even though he's supposed to be a good guy. He always seems so close to bad that he's always in a grey area.
That's exactly why I like him! "
He makes me uneasy, though I guess I don't like unpredictable people. He has the air of someone who could become a dictator. |

I remember reading Wuthering Heights for the first time as a kid and doing a little mental cheer every time a character died.
Are we meant to care about any of them? Are we meant to feel sad when they die? They're all just awful and the (fictional) world is a better place without them. |

You'd love HBO's Succession then. Everyone in it is unutterably awful. They're all vile. So who cares when bad things happen to them. |

Batman. I detest him.
He's painted as an anti-hero, and yet there are 5-year olds running around in Batman suits idolizing him
.
He's just a wealthy vigilante, with anger management issues, running amok and meting out his own justice, completely disrespecting the law.
I'm hoping the new movie paints him in a less attractive and abusive light, enough to make people think "hang on...I need to reframe my approval for this character because he's morally dubious at the least, and more akin to those he fights against. Who is the real monster here?".
If people come out the movie questioning their relationship with The Batman, then in my mind it will be a masterpiece.
The last Joker with Joaquin Phoenix did this very well.
It held up a mirror to the audience and invited them to look deeper to see what they found.
It's far too easy and simplistic to hate on a villain. It's much more interesting when we see elements of ourselves in the villain, and can understand how they got to be the way they are. It makes us question ourselves and that is a good thing I feel.
There but for the grace of God, as the saying goes. |

Peter Pan and Captain Hook is biggest
As child shown Peter is hero as hook always fights and tries hurt lost boys and Peter.
But as adult look at it hook only tries hurt Peter and no one else infact hook is a hero as Peter goes and takes kids and brings them to netherland with false stories and they never leave
Hahahaha |
