I've just turned 23, finishing up final year of school(msc) and plan to enter the world of work later this year, anyone got life/work advice for their 23 year old self? |

People are going to pressure you into feeling you need to do certain things and act a certain way, be that relationships, how to parent, the home you should buy, the job you should have. Often your nearest and dearest. Bollocks to them only you know what makes you happy, and that’s essentially the key to it. Find your happy, not someone else’s.

OP - I an going to imagine that you have no real ties or obligations at the moment which means that you have freedom. Use it. Now is the time to take some risks and try new things.
Travel, sex, business - what ever you want to do give it a go. If it doesn’t work out - who cares? If it does work out - awesome you have learned something.
In a few years then obligations will start to mount up - relationships, kids, work, mortgage - and you will find that you are less open or able to take risks.
Don’t lose the opportunity you have now.
I will also observe that every year of your life is the best - as long as you are healthy then life is good no matter what age you are. |

My 23yo life was not representative of the norm. I'm not sure the OP is expecting to read something about dealing with 7yo children who are going into the juniors

I am working on second divorce, I do want to marry current missus as she is awesome and I won't marry a 4th time.

Choose your company’s and managers well. Especially at the start of your career , the role and salary is much less important than a good manager |

OMG I disagree with all that ! Have lots of kids they are much more important than money and always leverage low interest rates to raise capital and do the things other people are scared of doing like start businesses and owning property |

When going for an interview remember it is THE job not A job.
Don't warble on in the interview about how their job is going to improve your training, experience and skills. Ask not what they can do for you, say what you can do for them.
Loyalty is not worth the paper it is written on unless, perhaps, the paper is a wedge of £20 notes.
Be on good terms with your work colleagues but not at the expence of your principals. You will need them sometime and will want them on your side.
When the ancient, 60 plus, idiot in the corner offers advice receive it with good humour and at least consider it. 40 years of work experience counts for a lot and problem situations often come back round time and again.

You're 23, you've already cracked it. My message to me at 23 would be ditch the blone and get signed up to a swingers site!!!!! I'm just 20 years too late to benefit from that sage advice!!! I'm making up for it now, but you will have all those years to enjoy!! I wish I'd had. |

Get a vasectomy
Try to maintain your financial independence
Buy your own place
Try to live more within your means and invest when you can
Avoid meeting person x, y and z

Forget the girl you are dating, she only wants a baby to get a house.

To my 23 year myself.
In a few years your meet the best lady of your life. Enjoy and have fun. Listen to her.
Ps the world of work can be harsh but find the job you enjoy. Money is not important you can be rich in many other ways. Life, love, kids, grandkids. Simple time off with loved ones is better than travelling the world at vast expense.
Most important. Talk to partner. Never lie and you be surprised at the rewards they may give.
