I love dressing up in 1940's gear and trooping off to a tea dance.

Whilst I love all that kind of stuff, including the fact merlin engines turn me on lol....Do you think it is wrong that the years where so much atrocity was inflicted, that most have a romanticised view of them?

But there was also a huge feeling of community and camaraderie that made people live for the moment and enjoy whatever pleasure they could, no matter how small

I know what you mean. Do you know, a bit off topic, but I watched Schindlers List and didnt realise the film was in black and white until the girl with a red coat appeared....it was just the norm for such a subject lol.

A world of my own

Oh I just love 40s stuff, the clothes, music, love the big band sound, Glen Miller etc..

I think its because we all pulled together against a common enemy and we had to help each other to survive (not that I was around then, but with all thoses over sexed, over paid and over here Americans I wish I had been)

All the movies/TV progs romatasise it too, and for those who weren't there we imagine it being like Yanks and the one with Harrison Ford in it (name escapes me now but he was a yank over here in WW2). Danger UXB as a particular fave TV show of mine along with We'll Meet Again.

I think Sgt Gruber is one of the best characters in Allo Allo, and yes it certainly is funniner now that it was when it first came out.

Trace has an SS haupsturmfhurer (head storm leader/captain) uniform, she wears the jacket and cap with thigh boots.....and riding crop of course.

The thing is though,it does make you feel strange when you put it on.

As soon as guys see it they put it on and automatically swagger about in front of the mirror .

Most were horrible evil bastards but they did have the best uniforms IMO.
