Apparently we should not wear sombreros in case we offend the Mexicans. Rafael Nadal won the Mexican Tennis Open and did just that. We're the Mex offended. Heck no. Stop being offended on other people's behalf. |

Can I just point out that Nadal is Spanish and where do you think the Mexicans got the sombrero from in the first place. |

I suppose we should all stop wearing socks, for fear of offending the Greeks. |

This is the reason I got rid of my corn rows.
Not because they looked fucking stupid.
Out of interest, when exactly were you planning wearing a sombrero?

"To a fancy dress party dressed as a Mexican riding a bike.
I am not sure if Nadal is Spanish. I always thought he was a Majorcan"
Definitely Spanish.
This cultural appropriation claims do at times go too far. A black NBA player had a dog at a Chinese NBA player for having corn rows. He backed off massively when the Chinese gent pointed out the black player had a Chinese writing tattoo.

Nadal is from Manacor, Mallorca. He speaks mallorquín. Mallorca has a distinct identity from much of Spain (as have other autonomous communities). |

The sombrero everyone thinks of is definitely Mexican or central American. Not Spanish. The Mexican sombrero evolved from the traditional Spanish hat called the "poblano". This is broad brimmed but with a flat crown.
If Rafal Nadal cannot wear a sombrero then middle aged British men in socks/sandals cannot wear baseball caps to protect their bald spots. Baseball caps are not British. |

If you see me wearing sandals with socks either call an ambulance or just shoot me dead on the spot. It'd be a mercy killing. |

So you think Nadal was being a bit racist by donning the sombrero? |

Only if it's racist for you to wear a baseball cap. |
