I heard it’s being renamed Faith Sunday so we don’t offend anyone

Are you for or against renaming traditions like “Merry Christmas” to “Happy “Holidays” because someone belongs to a different faith?

Way I see it is if you come to this country (UK in my case) you accept our traditions. What’s next? Burns Night?

None of this is actually happening. This same shite gets mentioned every year, usually in the Daily Mail yet nothing changes.

As someone who has grown up around 3 different religions I can guarantee not a single person of a different faith cares about any of it.

On a mooch

Well considering the different Christian faiths and others that follow Jesus call the day different things, does it really matter if it is called Faith Sunday recognising all those that celebrate it. We are after all supposed to be a mixed welcoming culture.

This isn't true.

Nobody is planning to rename Easter or any other religious holiday, be that Christian or any other.

Also, traditions change. The UK hasn't always been a Christian country.

Many Christian holidays are borrowed from pagan ones.

Yup. Came here to say this. The same “pc gone mad” clickbaity made-up bollocks is recycled every year.

I’ve not seen the “we have to call them chocolate eggs now” one yet, but it’s still early in the season.

It’s just put out there to cause division in an already fractured society. If it’s not in the Daily Mail it’s all over Facebook and being shared by people who haven’t actually bothered to fact check it.

Totally. Disinformation-based culture wars. Entirely designed to whip up panic which in turn drives people down a populist one way road where it’s fine to have a totally corrupt government, just so long as they keep the “wrong” kind of people out.

Leaving aside the fact that it's not happening, I don't care if someone wishes me merry Christmas or happy holidays or a jolly festive period or a wonderful winterval.

The intention is all the same, they are extending a positive and friendly greeting to me and I don't really care which exact words they choose to say.

I think it’s simpler than that even, it’s just DM fake news click bait , the writers have targets to meet and they know their readers well. Often the headline changes in the article amd when you get into the text it’s just reporting a random tweet that they probably sent themselves from a fake account

Doesn’t matter what is called or anything else for that matter, someone will always find fault, so quiet life in government is never a possibility

I can't wait for Easter. It's my favourite holiday. Not just the symbolism but also the time of year, the spring and the colours and flowers all around you, the lovely roast, the eggs of course and everything about it. I can't wait to put the Easter tree up either

abruzzo Italy (and UK)

Changing the name from Easter is fairly meaningless from a Christian perspective anyway as it was originally a pagan festival that Christianity just hijacked.

All the fun things about Easter are pagan. Bunnies are a leftover from the pagan festival of Eostre, a great northern goddess whose symbol was a rabbit or hare. Exchange of eggs is an ancient custom, celebrated by many cultures.

The date of Easter is not fixed, but instead is governed by the phases of the moon – how pagan is that?

Do you know that the word Easter actually comes from Eostre, she was a Germanic Pagan Godess of spring-time. She dates back many centuries before the start of Christianity.

That makes me feel better celebrating it… not being religious etc…. Have a sister who so deep in the Christian faith (Born Again) she’s actually priding herself on turning a former JW into Christianity, which actually she hasn’t, he never used to be religious but then “found” God through JW, now he’s stopped practicing JW, he’s simply not religious again ROFL.

She does though have the graciousness to put aside her faith with another sister who is a JW
