Whether losing weight, just keeping fit, training for an event/competition or sport.

How did it go?

I squatted above 500lbs for the first time since injuring myself last year. One lift I'm struggling to get back to pre injury weights, still 150+lbs to go.

Bodyweight is back up around 100kg, 12kg down still, not sure I can be arsed to gain back the size, may compete at a lower bodyweight if I ever manage to be fully injury free again.

Usual push pull legs routine and managed to squat 100kg for the first time yesterday! My bench press is still ass though and not sure what I can do to improve it

Overall, I'm doing well at building muscle as I was quite skinny and up to 71kg which is the heaviest I've ever been. I am at 14% body fat though so while I'd like to build more muscle, I don't really want to add any more fat to my build. Uqite the quandary

I'm enjoying HITT at least 3 sessions a week and am doing drop sets on weights and smashing my previous targets on the cardio. Definitely toning up and steadily losing weight.

Tough week for me, week 3 of a hypertrophy block and I’ve pushed the weights up a touch for the last couple of sessions. Body is deliciously sore now. The feeling of progression is great, and I’m starting to see a few differences in my shape.

We both had covid a couple of weeks back and still feel rubbish and weak, so this week it was very light picking heavy things up and putting them down again for both of us, hopefully next week we'll be feeling more human again.

I'm still plucking up courage to use the weights bench as its full of grunting men

It's been a good week, been twice so far and going tomorrow

5km on treadmill

Pressing 55kg the resistance machines, 4 sets of 10 reps

Mix of arm and leg

5km rowing machine

Cool down with stretches and yoga. Noticing a difference physically and mentally tbh

Plateaued badly on deadlift. Bought some knee wraps and managed a few more reps on squats and managed 330kg on the leg press. Injured a forearm on chest day and an ankle whilst running but managed a 40kg dumbbell shoulder press for the first time.

A mixed week but I’ve got 2 weeks left of bulking and then it’s a major cut before summer so I expect all lift to go down

Picture the scene ok

Two long parallel lines of treadmills and nobody on a single treadmill

So I go on the back line , middle treadmill

Big long line of 20 treadmills infront of me empty

Then after 5 minutes this girl , yes girl probably about 20 tops a third of my age ( lol)

Goes on the middle treadmill right infront of me

Directly infront of me wearing the tightest Lyra with an athletic body of a size 8

So I’m not a perv however after 5 mins Iam aware of lots of females and couples coming in looking me up and down thinking I’ve chose the treadmill purposely behind her .

I had to press stop and move on

Could not take the looks up and down

And I was innocent.

Depends on how you define elite.

790kg total in competition, 815kg gym total before injury, already won a british title. Qualified for Europe's and worlds but covid cancelled that.

Good enough to win at European level but worlds I'm way off, need a 1000kg total to be in with a chance of winning. I'd still compete to just to say I've tested myself against the best in the world

Managed biceps, flys, chest press + skull crackers x 7kg x 8 reps x 3 sets and shoulder press x 6kg x 8 reps x3sets

Arm pulley down machine (20kg each side) x 8 reps x 3 sets

Pull up assist x 8 x 3 with 35kg assist

. It nearly killed me.. I don't think I'll ever be able to do it unassisted

That's way too much weight ..if you want to be able to walk in retirement.

I don't think there is ever a need to squat more than 100kg - provided you go deep enough.

I have elbow surgery 4 weeks ago. Feels fine but tendons and muscles had shrank due to injury. Doing daily stretching exercises to straight arm.

I'm still able to do lower body. I got a 190kg on hack squat last week for 5 reps and 240 on the leverage squat and belted squat for 5 too.

I wasn't able to barbell squat due to injury but last week I squatted for the 1st time in 3 years and got an easy 150kg. Just not pushing it at the moment.

Prior to op I was getting 60kg dumbell shoulder press for 4 reps and 70kg dumbell chest press for triples

Nice one. Good luck getting back to it. Covid interrupted our training too.

We're both thinking of entering some competitions over the next year or so. Wife keeps mentioning a powerlifting comp. She's never played sport so I'm pleased for her to be taking lifting seriously in our "middle years".

I played rugby for a long time, so have had a decent fix of "being competitive"; though I am interesting in Oly lifting for seniors. Might be fun, going off on holiday somewhere exotic, lifting when I'm in my 50s!

You basically jump or get lifted to the upper position and then slowly lower yourself to the hanging position. It’s working the same muscle groups and will help massively towards doing a normal pull-up.

Similar but doing negative pull-ups gets you used to doing them unassisted. Both will help you get towards doing normal pull-ups though

Missed squats on Monday and did my bench press on Wednesday morning instead of Tuesday evening. Hit a pb of 82.5kg which I'm happy aboit as we tested it a few weeks early.

Wednesday evening was a functional fitness session.

Thursday was early deadlifts. Was meant to be doing 3's but I was with the boss and we decided to go off plan and test our 1 reps.... Another pb of 140kg!

Then I've been helping move all the kit to a new gym. Breaking down racks, shifting all the plates etc. I'm knackered lol

"Being told to do lunges to activate my glutes, hell no.

Only thing I will lunge for is a chocolate digestive!

Joking aside, I have had an okay week at the gym

Lunges are the absolute worst! Used to do them after squats and leg press wondered if it was worth it

Am I weird for loving walking lunges? They're one of my favourite excercises.

Yes.... "

I absolutely love leg day. Heavy squats are my favourite exercise but I’m 99.9% certain the devil invented lunges.

I prefer lunges to squats. "

Massive red flag right there

I don't do any lunges or squats and have never heard of leg day. Everyday is shoulder day for me

The devil invented my current leg day - Squats, hack squats, walking lunges then finish with sissy squats
