Ahh gotcha
Yes, true I guess of any war. The ones authorising it are never the ones on the battlefield, are they? |

They're soldiers. Do you believe every member of the British forces who went into Iraq on the back of Tony Blairs lies should consider shooting themselves?
They're not Russians, they're humans, no different to you or I.

Many Russians will not support this invasion but if you're in the armed forces you can't exactly refuse to do your job... |

"Tad harsh there doing the job they are ordered to do it doesnt matter if they believe in the war or not "
That's something that makes me wonder about conflict. Just how effective the brainwashing/training is to induce one human to murder another without questioning the validity or merit of the cause |

Same. My heart goes out to those in times of conscription, but I can't get my head around voluntarily signing up to obey any order based on political whim. |

Yeah, I get the kill or be killed and the protect bit- when under fire. What I struggle with sometimes is the mindset that one can be directed to kill and murder and dismiss it as simply following orders- especially for questionable cause and objectives. |

Erm Russia is very different from this country! The kill or be killed would apply to them I would imagine if they don’t do as they’re told! |

Certain types of people seem ok with this, country and nationalism is more important than lives of strangers.
Others are probably very young and just looking for a way out without thinking it through. |

The second part I can also get actually. A steady career and training for people who might not have had much of a future otherwise. I just can't do the blanket hero worship of armed services when there's no identifiable bad guy that made them sign up. I know this is a VERY unpopular opinion generally though. |

Most Russians don't and for the interviews I've seen with Russian civilians in Russia they are also in shock and devastated plus they have started demonstrating in the capital. |

Apparently a squadron of the Russian 74th brigade surrendered precisely because they refused to fashion ukranians. This is treated as confirmed by various news outlets including the bbc |

With your opening post I didn't know what you were on about, but this cleared it up. You're just a massive see you next Tuesday. You honestly think all soldiers sign up (if they even get the choice of signing up, and they're not conscripted) to go and kill babies?
I can only hope you're a massive troll, because if you're genuine.... |

Not following a direct order is a court-martial offence. I imagine if they don’t do as they are told they will be shot. So it barely leaves them any choice. |

Having visited Russia, I found its people incredibly friendly and welcoming. They look after a number of war memorials erected to British was dead (and did through the Cold War)
Don’t forget that the sanction will hit them hardest. They voted for Putin based on the best media misinformation campaigns (where the Brexit campaign learned its lesson) around and that polls were rigged |
