All we can do is stop him regaining the rest of the old Soviet Union which appears to be his intention

Its not going to be WW3, i dont know why so many ppl are jumping on that

Ukraine will not be an easy fight for russia to begin with, just look at chechnia and how that went for the russians

Plus full scale war among the major powers will be way too costly for everyone with very little to gain for either side

I get that ppl are worried, but clamouring amongst yourselves and throwing around "WW3" is just gonna make other ppl panic more than they should. It aint helpful.

Too right. The western Allies have already said they're not going to put troops into Ukraine.

Ukraine will fall and Russia will be sanctioned.

Now it may eventually lead to war once the sanctions kick in down the line somewhere.

Or when trump is reelected it will all be smoothed over and resolved.

Russia's is not a big economy. They have roughly 1/20th of the GDP as the USA and just slightly over 1/2 that of the UK.

Right now meetings will be going on looking at ways of crippling Russia economically.

Putin knows there's only so far he can go with this. There are lots of Russian billionaires assets scattered all around the economies of democracies and those guys won't want them frozen and would have told Putin that.

Tragically, I think that Ukraine will be swallowed up by Russia. It's likely the same fate awaits Belorus, who are only licking Putin's arse in a futile effort to save their own bacon.

The test will be whether Putin attacks a NATO country and I don't think he will. The cost would be too high.

So as the poster I quoted said, let's stop panicking shall we? It really isn't helpful.

Panicking? Concern. Because we’ve let down friendly neighbours. We’ll have a confident mad dog next door that might strike again.

Funny how people think the modern world is about sticking up for the underdog.

Where are the protests for our Ukrainian friends many of whom will be shot in mass graves?

Panic isn’t helpful I agree. But I think people need to remember that Putin isn’t reasonable Bob from down the pub. He’s an egomaniac. He is a liar. He cannot be trusted.

He can sit down and negotiate with World Leaders till the cows come home. Doesn’t mean he will stick to plans or promises. He can’t be trusted. He has proved this.

He also has access to some pretty shit hot military weapons and he’s currently invading the Ukraine. Which is only a 3 hour flight from the UK.

I think people need to be realistic that this COULD all go to shit. All it takes is someone to get button happy. To think they are untouchable. To cross into NATO territory.

It’s not impossible. If it were impossible THEN I’d be more relaxed.

Remember, the Ukraine head honcho didn’t actually think Russia would invade, and look how that has gone.
