I like to support local charity’s, I have a huge grudge for those corporation charity’s !
We have a local starthrowers, supports children and families going through cancer locally and the local animal sanctuary
I also have a soft spot for the local dementia group charity |

I buy quite a lot of my clothes from charity shops, but obviously only if it's something that I'm actually in the market for and actually fits me. I don't necessarily chose one particular charity though, it's kinda hit and miss most times. Good question though OP |

I would split between Shelter for the homeless, Refuge for domestic violence and Age Concern for the elderly. Animal charities do get well supported, that is why not included |

I feel they just don't get enough recognition for what they do because people give more to cancer charities, understandably so x |

Totally agree. Was a charity I supported in the beginning being a forced “brat” until I did my research. Would rather give to SAFFA now |

I do believe that. Maybe that's the reason why we don't hear much about them. A friend of mine is raising money for them as I speak x |

I previously worked for a large ish cancer charity! They don’t generate as much in donations as you’d think! Animal and military charities raise much more! |

My parents used to go SAFFA coffee afternoons years ago and there was always a raffle, things you could buy etc. Mum said it was always a good afternoon x |

I have a bit of land, so I built some stables and gave them, and use of some land, to a disabled horse riding charity. My main monetary charity is a local small cat and kitten recue centre (larger cats too ) |

"Royal charity that partnered with Prince Harry's life coaching firm spent 98% of £796,000 cash it raised in one year on paying just TEN staff"
Btw, I don't believe the figure published by charity in how much they spend in good cause. That can be easily manipulated. I choose to spend money in charitable cause in my own way. |

Given that i'm a digital fundraising consultant i know the figures are highly vetted. Otherwise, you wouldn't have BHF publishing that only 26p of each £1 goes on the cause and btw some charities have no staff just volunteers. Using one charity example to justify donating to no charities is odd. And no, figures are independently vetted by the charity commission and the fundraising regulator. |

I don't give cash to any charity now simply because I've been involved with a number of independent charities over the years and spent many days at fundraising and promotional events as well as street collections.
I've even been a trustee of one of these charities and I've left two of them because of the way funds were being diverted to purchase equipment that only a select few in the organisation were ever trained to use which gave them an excuse to borrow it for their own private ventures.
Government funding was used to purchase vehicles that were specifically built to the spec required for non charitable use rather than what they were required for.
Seeing so many people fighting for control of charities that are supposed to be helping others has tainted my outlook which is very sad because I'm sure there are lots of charities doing sterling work. They'll just have to do it without my contributions. |

I know there will be different opinions and reasons why people give or not. Interesting to see everyone's opinions so far. I wish in a perfect world nobody should need to give to charities but I am a believer in doing our bit for the less fortunate and those in need. I give to charity shops and of course in charity collection boxes but always have 3 or 4 charities on direct debit but change them every few years. Mostly to an animal, a children's, a mental health and a homeless one. I have also taken to giving stuff to food banks as I can't stand the thought of people going hungry in a country like ours and other places too. It's a bit shameful really and if I can do my tiny little bit to help, I try to do that. |

I donate and help fundraise where I can for my local hospice, they were so good with my mum and aunt through their breast cancer battles. They gey little government help and rely on donations to stay afloat.
In work we hold charity days and nominate a charity for them, we've been supporting various ones over the years, our current one is MNDA, our colleagues father passed away from this so it's close to all our hearts |

I support an anti trafficking charity in Eastern Europe and we rescue Roma children from prostitution , and ffund a school to educate and mentor them - rescued girls and young men who do the trafficking
One off gifts are actually a real pain for most charities, much prefer a regular monthly amount by DD with gift aid, helps to plan |
