What would you get rid of? I am moving house and downsizing. I have given away or sold a LOT so far. Over 100 books for example.
But some things I find hard to say goodbye to. For some reason I can't bring myself to sell the Lego. Boxes of it which no-one plays with. FFS.
What would you find easy or hard to get rid of? |

Easy just about most things
Hardest is clothes and heels
Got a big problem throwing stuff away that doesn’t even fit anymore and probably never will again ass has gotten to big to get them over |

The entire contents including the husband and kids would be easy to pass on to someone else..
Harder choice would be my Jewellery and Handbag collection .... |

Memory boxes are my hardest things I could ever part with
I did have a good clear out of my kink box last night ready to make space for some new additions, so not essentially a getting rid session just making space |

I find clothes one of the easiest things to give away - that's why I thought I'd ask. Mind you I have so few clothes anyway - I imagine you've got a roomful. |

I’m not very sentimental so I’d get rid of pretty much everything that’s of little to no use. I use a system where I ask myself if I’ve used or looked at it during the previous couple of years.
Yes: I keep it
No: Off it goes to whatever fate I deem appropriate. |

I have been a bit ruthless over the last couple of year. If I haven't used it or worn in the last year it goes out either to a charity shop or to be recycled.
The only things that don't go out are family documents, birth, death and marriage certificates, diaries and photographs.

It’s the sentimental things for me, old photos, belongings of grandparents and alike. All of which is so random and worth nothing, but I still get the box out once a year, have a good look through, mixed with a few tears but always ends with laughter.
Everything else is replaceable |

I have far too many DVD'S but can't get rid of them. I know you can get pretty much any film ever made on demand these days. But there is just something about going through them and watching a film I haven't watched in ages. |

I don't really keep 'stuff' so it's not hard for me. I have a regular junk clear out about 4 times a year. Other than sentimental two boxes, anything we don't use or need, I get rid of. |

I'm not very sentimental at all but I still hang on to items that belonged to my grandparents for example. They activate core memories for me, I guess! |

I’m quite minimalist so it’s not hard , I recently moved house and other than few nice peoples of furniture, art , clothes, plants and some bits for the kitchen I got rid of everything , felt good to start with a fresh canvass |

If I was going, I’d keep the boy (if he wanted), the dog, the contents of the garage and my phone.
If I was staying, I’d get rid of my in-laws and every vestige of their presence in my life. |

The boxes of photos will always travel with me. I have thousands in digital form but I still love looking through the boxes too. |

"I'm a bit of a hoarder! So very difficult! X"
This for me too. I really struggled when I sold my three bed house to move in with my mum. I kept things of sentimental value and important documents etc and clothes, jewellery, all of the kids things, clothes etc.
And for the rest I got a house clearance guy in who completely emptied it. It was so liberating!! .
Although if your downsizing to your own place it’s not that easy, so I feel your pain! |

Could you give the lego to a charity, community centre or something along those lines so you feel like you've done something good with it? |

the house we live in was quite full of other peoples' things, due to a few family deaths, till quite recently.
It took quite some time to sift through it all, didn't want to landfill everything, but finding new homes for it has been very challening especially with lockdowns happening.
Thankfully near the end of it now.
During that process I actually did get rid of a lot of my own stuff,
I used to do a lot of art and craft, but since we got our boats and motorbikes there hasn't been time,
plus my eyesight has started to deteriorate so I can't see to thread sewing needles now,
the beads and sequin collection sadly had to go. |

My car collection, in particularly my ford sierra rs500, its my childhood car and been family owned by my dad both here then in cyprus. I shipped it back from cyprus 5 year ago and recently finished the restoration on it. Its full of childhood memories, the smell, the sounds everything just put me in a happy place. That car has saved me from being in a dark place & returning to that place.

I'm lucky in that I do clear outs fairly regularly. I've also moved house a good few times to tend not to build up a load of stuff. Last time I moved I got rid of most of my books and clothes that don't fit I debated getting rid of my CD collection but decided against it in the end and kept them. |

I have booked a large wooden cupboard to be picked up by a charity. It was made by my grandfather in his workshop in Melbourne. Has housed family games and books for decades but I can't fit it anywhere. It's an ugly cupboard but I'm a bit heartbroken to see it go. |

I have looked around my house many times wondering what I would want to take with me if I moved. It amounts to very little. I could pack up anything precious to me in a few big boxes and a small piece of furniture or two. I would like to start afresh with all new lovely treasures. |

I have all of my kids books to make room for, I have given away hundreds of mine in the last couple of years. Doesn't mean I don't read. |

The rest is just stuff.
I'm hoping to relocate within the next year, and will take very little with me. |

I’ve down sized a few times over the years and I can certainly say what I wish I hadn’t got rid of. I sold quite a bit of vinyl which I wish I had kept even though I pretty much only listen to music on download now, but I could happily lose most of the CD collection, I don’t think I will ever have a nostalgic longing for those, same with dvds, I only watch streaming services. I got rid of a lot of books too and wish I hadnt, even though again I only really use my kindle now, I think books and vinyl just have more of a place in my heart than I once realised.
Otherwise almost everything else I own is functional apart from a few prints |

You could build your books and records back up. It is quite a thrill to find an old favourite in a bookshop and know it can be yours again. |

I suppose it's realising why you hang onto things and recognising if it's "stuff" or has a deeper meaning. I have very little attachment to things unless they're associated with a person I care about. |
