Can you reduce stubborn belly fat?

From the land of haribos.

In a nutshell, no you cant, the really only way to do it is to be in a calorie deficit for a long period of time.

I watched coach greggs latest video about it, here it is, it was interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOR00HKHkgk&t=42s he gives 10 points to follow and here are few of them:

1 Set realistic goals

2 Small calorie deficit

3 Do cardio

4 Low calorie foods

5 Be consistent

I'm not sure Shag

I stated taking evening primrose oil for my menopausal joints and have noticed my weight loss has changed to belly fat loss. After 2 years of calorie control that was the one place it always stayed the same size

By sticking to a calorie controlled diet and get plenty of exercise is the obvious answer

I cut my intake to 1200 calories per day for 3 months, I would do 12-14k steps walk daily

Then upped my intake to 1500 cals per day and I still walk daily

I also practice mindfulness and meditate twice daily, I practice qigong breathing, it is surprising how many calories you can shift half an hour sitting breathing properly

Going to a gym 3-4 nights a week doing repetitive exercise hurts and builds/tones muscle and doesn’t necessarily lose weight

1200-1500kCal/day? That is a very fast rate of weight loss.

You're right, Shag.

Sadly we can't choose where we will lose fat from - as much as I wish we could (some very stubborn areas!). We will only lose fat by being in a calorie deficit, but keep resistance training to maintain muscle mass too...consistency is key...

No. You don’t have to give anything up to be in a calorie deficit. Although making better choices would make you feel like you’re eating more.

Sadly we can’t spot reduce targeted fat burning/loss from specific parts of our bodies. However we are all genetically different and the order in which fat is noticeably stored and lost. It can vary especially between men and women. You also have different types of fat visceral, subcutaneous fat and adipose tissue.

I think it is possible but like you said, it would take a long while and as a result, may take away from other goals you want to achieve. My top 4 abs have been quite defined but found my bottom 2 to be a bit flabby but just not dedicated enough to specifically focus on those 2 abs as I don't think it's worth it

I’m similar. I know how to lose weight. I’ve done it before and could quite easily do it again. I train hard but I just like having a drink and a takeaway too much

I lost over 5 stone and went from pushing a 40 to now being a comfortable 30. Op is right, you can't target weightloss and your belly unfortunately takes the longest to shift. The way to look better is to do the crunches, Mason twists, mountain climbers etc from day 1, so when the weight does start to shift you have progress already there to see and it boots you to continue and do more. A calorie deficit is the way the weight comes off along with walking, jogging and swimming (any of those helps shift the fat). The biggest bit of advice I would give if weight loss is required is to use a food diary - myfitnesspal etc from underarmour is great for this. And have one ginger snap with your coffee Unfortunately to get the belly looking good after you've lost the fat is a completely different thing - I'm happy with it just being presentable!!!

In the west.

I had a similar issue, too much beer over a long period of time. It was hard work but it got rid of most of it.

I do lots and lots of crunches. I use an Ab Mat from Decath.lon and an ab cruncher at home. I use the ab benches at the gym and the functional machines so that I engage my core.

I also use 10kg free weights at home, between pervs on here, again to engage my core.

In my younger days I was a professional fighter so used to controlling weight.

In my elder years I had gained weight and was 205 Ilbs in Aug 2021.

At Christmas I weighed 175 Ibs

I currently weigh between 170-175 Ibs

I don’t attend a gym, I walk everywhere. My nearest supermarket is 4 miles away and I walk.

I don’t cut out anything in my diet, I eat smaller portions than was the norm.

Granted 95% of my diet is plant based prepared from scratch

No beer, no choccy, no or sweet drinks, no bread, no potatoes, no ice cream and shift your fat ass and do some walking to shift the shit packed up in you as well.

Yes, you are right there as one cant control it where it comes off, but yes, diet is yes 90% which you can control, by being long enough in a deficit it will eventually come off, the time will vary by person to person

You can't pinpoint where you lose body fat, the "tyre" is normally the last thing to go.

Put yourself in a calorie deficit, up your activity, have a high protein intake and drink at least 2 ltrs of water a day. Overall you'll reduce body fat and get fitter.

I’ve spent 2 years working with a calorie deficit, consistent training of 4 sessions a week in the gym, and a couple of long walks or bike rides. I eat all the food I love still…..just less of it in one sitting. I won’t say what my starting weight was as it’s shameful to say out loud, but I’ve lost 65kg since beginning. I’m not worried where the fat has gone from, as long as it continues to go.

My heart, body, mind, and libido is thanking me every day.

Your body removes fat in its own way, from wherever, potentially influenced by genetics, your life experience and the environment you're in. Spot weight loss is largely a myth.
