It would no doubt be an official, nationally-observed week of mourning which no major employer would observe in any meaningful sense. The Royal Mint would (ironically enough) make a fortune selling "£5 commemorative coins" worth only face value for £80 each.

I just hope I live long enough to see William serve as president. I'm only 2 years older than him so here's hoping...

Good eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevening, Techno. Should Queen Lizzy 2 kick the Covid bucket. Which I really hope she doesn't. Will we still get extra Bank Holiday?

It would no doubt be an official, nationally-observed week of mourning which no major employer would observe in any meaningful sense. The Royal Mint would (ironically enough) make a fortune selling "£5 commemorative coins" worth only face value for £80 each.

I just hope I live long enough to see William serve as president. I'm only 2 years older than him so here's hoping... "

I hope you get some Willy.

I just think it's funny how everyone is expected to forget the last ~30 years of royal fuck-ups.

If it wasn't for Her Majesty we'd probably be a republic already.

I think the monarchy is outdated. Kings and queens, are we living in a fairy tale? Charles will likely keep it going. And if he takes after his parents, he'll be around for a while.

The oath of allegiance to queen and Country means the same name as it did in 1995.

It's not the person or persons, because they may as well not exist in relative terms, its what that oath represents.....

Let's be honest...Charles is unlikely to even make his silver jubilee.

I really can't see the monarchy ever being seen as anything resembling "modern" or "progressive" unless Charles immediately abdicates and hands the reigns over to William (which isn't going to happen).

I'm not entirely convinced he will outlive his mother, either. Maybe Spitting Image (Series 16, Episode 1) was right?

The British oath of allegiance is to the reigning monarch and to their heirs or successors...

The state doesn't come into it.

So you at least agree they are a waste of money then?

Rather like those useless fidget spinners. Everybody wanted them, everybody wasted money on them but they were ultimately useless contraptions that only made money for their creators.

What money are you referring to?

Do you personally send them cash?

Again don't get the don't spend money on this or that despair, either it's people crying about sending money abroad, or it's folk saying don't fund the royal family, or its folk vomplaining about rich people.... literally what money is it we are referring too.,tax deductions? I don't know, but the Royal family isn't funded by the British public.

Nope...as I said, the country (state) doesn't come into it. Look it up if you really don't believe me...this applies to the armed forces, the police, members of the House of Commons, those taking citizenship...

Allegiance is sworn to the monarch and not the country.

I gave my oath in 1995.

And I swore to defend my country ,just because wiki or Google claim it doesn't, a soilder protect queen and indeed country from enemies foreign and domestic. My col in chief was Charles... so he was kind of the boss. Terms like the queen's shilling actually mean something.

It's not that you hate the enemies in front, it's because you love those behind.

There is a lot more than just spoken words when oaths are concerned.

in my defence, I have only ever shot bad people....

I did offer them my cock and a cuddle but they was intent on violence.

The balance was a big chunk of my time, that had nothing to do with queen or Britain, we was stopping folk starve to death, getting them electricity and heat so they didn't freeze and preventing people trafficking.

For the record I have a fairly high iq too

The oath for the British Army, Royal Air Force and the Royal Marines is broadly the same. The Royal Navy does not have an oath of allegiance (because their loyalty to the Crown is taken for granted).

If you still don't believe me here is the British Army oath of allegiance courtesy of a freedom of information request made to the government: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1043930/20210728-FOI06951_Oath_of_Allegiance-Response_Redacted.pdf

Having reread your post, with tired eyes. I can see where your confusion is.

The oath sworn is for the monarchy ,ref to the country but not the political state, was that the bit you are referring to.

Orders are not blindly followed if its deemed unlawful it can be disregarded.

When I refere to queen and Country, I refere to just that. The country being my home and the home of my loved ones.
