Storm Franklin
Jump to: Newest in thread
Yet another named storm arriving today, finger's crossed it won't be as disruptive as Eunice, though Franklin has only a yellow warning it will still hamper the clean up operations already ongoing and travel disruption for many. Think the storm is on the same path as before as South Wales has a warning in place again. |

At this time of year, there's no place like Rome. |

As long as you like wholemeal bread with lettuce and tomato, not a problem |

"What’s with naming every blow that comes along now?
Something for the doom and gloom mongers in the “news” to hang their hat on I suppose.
I think that storms have always been named...... "
Yup..... Since the 1500's, I googled |

Since 2014 but they've been doing it in the US since the early 50's. Until the 70's they all had female names. |

I didn’t realise there was going to be another storm until I started to head out to my friend’s an hour away, the wind and rain were so heavy.
Needless to say, I’m now in my jammies, bra off, glass of wine…I’m going no where |

That was for tropical revolving storms these are just our usual gales of varying strengths.
“Eunice” was a violent storm 11 on the Beaufort scale. Not quite a “hurricane”.
I don’t actually care.
Let the news consumers have their fun. |

Don't mind the naming either, its easier to identify which one caused damage if you are making a claim, I expect the claims are going to be high and cost us all some way or other. |

I best batten down the hatches then as a tree branch has already broken in my garden |

It's been far worse here today than with the Eunice one. We got sent to WFH on Friday but really, there was no need here. If today had been a work day, I'd have said it was more important to avoid travelling today. The rain was like someone throwing full buckets of water on your head. Local roads are flooded and the wind is far blowier than anything on Friday. |

"This storm naming lark is all part of a cynical plot to convince the gullible public that climate change is really affecting them!"
What? Because, fire, floods, extreme heat cycles speeding up and melting ice caps are not doing the job?
It's a useful tagging system for different weather fronts and gets people to notice them, potentially preserving life and enabling preparation.
1987 ended up being known as the Great Storm, but I've heard people call it the Michael Fish storm. We name things. This just keeps it consistent.

"Awful weather today, so much rain the poor hedgehogs are going to be washed out of their beds
I would think so our garden's are like swimming pools at the moment, just not draining away."
Waters drained here now but those winds wow!! we kind of thought we would be in another street when we looked out this morning |

Beyond the shadows. |
My car got hit by a twig on my way home yesterday and to top it all my bin got knocked over last night, I've decided not to go back out till it's all over. On the plus side, I've been stockpiling toilet rolls and tins of baked beans over the last two years so I think I'm ok to ride it out. |
