Having traversed the network of the London Underground the other day (or Blunderground, as they never seem to get it right), I noticed the broad spectrum of handbags of all shapes, sizes and colours being proudly carried by women.

So Ladies/Binaries/Whateveries of the Fab Fora: what are your weapons of choice: tote, clutch, purse, messenger, handbag, satchel, shoulder bag; Mulberry, Lonchamp, Hermés, Radley, Prada, Anya Hindmarch, M&S, Next, John Lewis, ...

Don't be shy. Be proud!

Fora.

I have a few handbags, mid range to luxury - they do tend to be big though, I'm not really one for small bags (bar one cliched Home Counties girl chain clutch bag). Deliberately avoiding brand names here so it doesn't seem like I'm an absolute throbber.

I love satchels and I'd use them every day if I had my way. Sadly the only time I wore one to a social I was told it was my Mary Poppins Bag *cough Sam cough*

I need to find a suitable bag for a wedding soon, I've been inspired by DC's ability to transform clothes into an outfit.

Satchels are one of my favourites and have a tan one, that I've had years and years. Current favourite is my great grandmother's handbag I've just had restored .

I used to be a collector of handbags large and small, but now I go out so seldom. I still treasure the sweet little fake fur "cow" bag. The black lacy evening shoulder bag. Oh and the dark green velvet vintage number. And the patent dark red handbag with the gold clasp. Sigh.

It depends entirely on the occasion, outfit, and what I need to take with me.

I have a designer tote bag that I use for work, mainly because I can fit loads of stuff in it and it looks better than a laptop bag when going to meetings. I prefer a nice clutch when going out out as cross-body bags can ruin the line of dresses. But I love cross-body bags and rucksacks for everyday excursions because they leave my hands free.

I'm currently searching for a clutch bag to match some gorgeous vintage shoes that I bought...I'm struggling to find the right style in copper coloured leather.

I love handbags, have 2 Radley bags, leather bag my lads bought me for Mothers day and an everyday bag with Radley dogs all over it

I have a gorgeous soft leather Cath Kidston bag I use for going out, has a removable strap so can use it as a clutch. I am worried about losing it though so the strap stays

I have a backpack. I like to wear it on both shoulders. Handbags always seemed a crazy idea to me as you only put it on one shoulder - so surely you get a bad back

I wouldn't know a designer product if you hit me with it. I buy a new bag every few years when mine falls apart.

Work - an Osprey black croc zip top tote bag to carry my laptop and paper work

General - a gold RADLEY rucksack or a gold Versace tote

Races - a statement bag to match the outfit. I have a football sized round, black and white stripe handbag and love it! Pick any size from a selection in my wardrobe

Evening or out out - tends to be a small functional (purse/phone/lippy) bag

I love Longchamps / RADLEY / Osprey / Versace

They're kinda like a big satchel but usually made from canvas. They were popular as an alternative to a rucksack for boys when I was in school in the 2000s.

My current handbag is black. It's a shoulder bag, I've no idea where I bought it but it's in decent leather and is put together very well.

For work I have a huge t bag that will fit my laptop, notepad, two water bottles, two phones, a keyboard and mouse, purse, keys and a lunchbox without looking too much like a suitcase. I've used my work bag as an overnight bag when I've gone away for the weekend.

I think I bought it at a craft market. The t is beautiful and is aging very nicely.

My bags get treated quite badly (they tend to live on the floor and get kicked around a bit), so I've never gone for status symbols or designer names.

Perhaps I need to write a thesis about this. Here's my concatenation of your responses:

Mèlí has some very expensive handbags but is too shy to name them. (I bet she's got a Birkin bag).

DÇ/Cøugs is our resident sybarite on here and she's got the biggest collection of all (including an iconic Hermés Kelly bag I bet). But she loves her Puuuurada.

Fridå is into handbag restoration (ßravo!)

Lilywhitë is looking for clutch' to go with her shoes and to match her porcelain-lilywhite smooth skin.

Dreavüs likes her Radleys. One of the few brands that's stylish and utilitarian at the same time.

Rickshawed: she's got a limited-edition £3,000 Pucci bag. Fact.

Nõra's got a climate-controlled walk-in wardrobe for all her bags, with an antechamber for the overspill.

Inconceivable spends most of her time at Sotheby's auctioning off her ever-growing bag collection. Sigh. She needs to get out more.

Dånísh is going to show me her most favourite bag at the next Mid Sussex Social....!

Vixen and YeahBaby Felicity each have a bag for every occasion, big or small but all sooo very expensive, no doubt.

KC² keeps all her expensive bags under her Audi wheelchair. If you want to smell the fine grain leather you have to go via her pussy first (it's a Purrrrrada). Form an orderly queue.

I'm getting Suzî a paper gift bag for her phone.

Jàn: I like your Kipling. They're ever sø versatile.

Shørtie is a MINImalist with BIG pockets.

LaceyRed has a Black and Tan sâtchel. But she's still rêd.

Hélèna: there's nothing wrong with a Fiorelli. How many do you have??

Hõney is a closet bag lady. And her closet is full of Messengers.

Bellåseås has an øcean of bags, from the funkiest to the finest. Even her wardrobe is purse-onalised!

PNG: we're both going to Harvey Nichols....

Dîêû has a Coach full of crazy bags. And they're all very expen$ive!

Candyfløss has got two bags. But it's still ² more then I have.

Høtwife's got some høtbags. From the House of Fägin.

Mrs Shady has 5° grades of handbags.

Curiousscouser is into Craft Market Bags. She supports local businesses....in Paris. X

Mrs NiceCØuple has the best bags of all. I have to say this because she's a Mod. Like Paul Weller.

Åurora has a selection of Bed Taker bags. Wear them with pride! (She's also got two LV bags from the House of LuncheonVoucher).

Güenevere: Rowallan bags are highly respected! It's amazing what you can get from fleaBay.

S@ucyTigger: if she had a £ for every bag she owns then she could blag a Birkin baG.

My dear friend QT has recently discovered Vendula London bags. They're funky and retrø.

HOWEVER: Here's an observation - no one mentioned "Michael Kors". In London they're bloody everywhere...like the plague!

[My next thread will have to be about stylish shoes, heels, flats, ...]

"After reading this thread last night I spent ages looking for a new bag for myself. Online isn't my thing but there are very few places that sell bags for guys.

I need a bag now as it's too much hassle trying to put everything I need into my jacket pockets. Hat, gloves, glasses and tote bags take up a lot of room.

Ebay has some really good leather and canvas bags for men at sensible prices.

In answer to the OP.

I have a wide range of handbags from small and cute to large tote, from cheap to quality, in a variety of materials.

I generally use small to medium cross body bags for day to day and am currently using a mid sized black leather Rowallan bag, that was a steal on eBay. My favourite is probably a seaside scene Radley bag ... another eBay buy

Thank you. I haven't looked at eBay yet, Amazon is always the first to pop on my phone.

It's a cross body or messenger type bag I'm after.

I'm not really a fan of shipping online as I like to see and touch whatever I'm buying first and then I think about the road miles if I have to return it.

Find one you like and do some research. Try to go for a good quality brand. A little used quality leather bag, is generally a better buy than a new unknown cheaper option.

I tend to go for quality now as I find they last longer. The accessories available for men is just pants.

I hadn't thought about a pre-owned bag.

But my favourite is a tote bag where I just my junk in it, and is literally a Mary poppins bag. The others I use more when going to special events or for special occasions.

Chams or Socials

I have a lovely Radley bag my parents bought me for my 40th birthday - it’s a really good sized bag that ends up being filled with all sorts of crap.

I love Ruby Shoos & have a few sets of matching shoes & bags as they’re a bit different.

I have a flowered leather satchel that I treated myself to many years ago but it’s too pretty to use

For concerts/football/travelling I have a cheap green canvas cross body bag that has served me well & holds many memories

I don't have many and they are mainly from charity shops, but my main dilemma is that they are either too small to put everything in or too big to be elegant, and I do like carrying a small paperback book sometimes as well as more normal things. Charity shops sometimes have really good handbags that are brand new or nearly new but not at silly prices.

I collect high end handbags and consider them investment pieces.

All practical sized and used / loved.

A good condition used vintage Chanel can easily go for twice what you paid if you pick a classic style

"Not seen a bloke with such interest in handbags since Fagin retired "

I love handbags, shoes and dresses. I love shopping for them with or without her.

I love the thought of her in the shoes or dress, how she'll look in it, how she wears it. It needn't be sexy. Sometimes, it was a coat or a hat. Just something that she would wear well, would flatter her and she would enjoy wearing, even if it was to 'please' me. It would be arousing for me to see her in it. Not necessarily sexually on every occasion.

Bags are part of the ensemble. It's the entire outfit. I love seeing her when we were out and the compliments she would receive for it.

I didn't think of it as perhaps a D/s trait but I suspect it is, in hindsight.

Does anyone else feel this way?

My favourite for handbags is definitely Karl Lagerfeld, have a few already and many more on the list. I am also trying to source a velvet Kurt Geiger Mini Kensington after they sold out, and building up to a Chanel classic one day.

I found myself standing in a handbag shop once, exercising considerable patience, when I observed a lady customer cross the shop floor to a full length mirror and do the twirly pose thing.

Without realising I was actually giving my observation out loud..'why on earth do you need a mirror to try on a handbag?'....

About a dozen pairs of eyes turned my way in utter contempt, and it was a good job I was close to the exit...

One day I will own a Chloe bag.

They are so pretty but my god, they are expensive!

Right now, I cannot justify the expense.

Maybe I should look at second hand although a handbag is a very personal thing and I'm not sure I would want someone else's.

A pre-loved, expensive handbag will probably have been owned by someone who bought it for an occasion and never used it again. In which case probably a good way to achieve your wish.

If you 'do a Google' for "pre-loved" handbags then you'll find some rare bargains on the ether. It's all relative really: we don't baulk at paying £1,200+ for a flagship iPhone which is no longer 'current' after 18 months or so, and yet we're trepidatious when it comes to a fine handbag at half that price. A bag which will improve with age, the leather becomes more supple, becomes rarer with each passing year, is timeless...and perhaps can be sold for a tidy sum under the right conditions.....

Agree with DC. If you buy the right bag at the right time it is an investment.

We sold an original Dior saddlebag, which was purchased by us new for £375, for £1400 not marked and hardly used. Of course the current ones are over £2500 now.

There are also rental places here now if you want something for a special occasion.

And here was me thinking this thread would have a polarising affect between all of you fabettes. Clearly not - thankfully - it's been a movement of solidarity.

Kitty Kått is a cognoscenti of Gianni Conti bags. She likes a 'bit' of luxury!

Kylíe has got every conceivable bag on the planet, almost as much as DC/Cougs.

Jennïe: another Radley fan (they're quite popular) plus a canvas "body bag" (don't ask!).

DNB and LucyJames are purveyors of the oldest bags here: WW2 Gas Mask Bag. Are they mønøgrammed? Hang around a while - there will be a WW3 one soon, imported from Ukraine, in 'Radioactive Red"...

Miss.dd is the epitome of "handbag savvy" - she's a collector extraordinaire. Chanel are indeed so very 'classique'.

Mrs Kool - I love Karl Lagerfeld! My mother bought me a 'Lagerfeld watch when I went to Uni'. It's still going strong. It's made in Hong Kong.

Badnanna - I felt your bag at the recent STP. It's very stroke'able.

La Luna isn't bothered but is bothered after all about her shimmering and sparkling clutch bag. Have you thought about rucksacks?

Alder has 'allder' biggest bags under the moonlit sky. She likes to be prepared for any event(uality).

DC/Cougs gets another mention. She's a closet fan of Prada and fake MK bags but she's buried them in the garden. You can borrow my Kate Spade to dig another hole.

KC² has got a limited edition shimmering DKNY smartphone holder for her wheelchair. Her wheelchair has doubled in value since.

LØrna is still being coy about her handbags but they get used regularly...poor Åsh - he's often whacked with a stylish bag. What's your wedding purse looking like?

Løis, you dark horse. Who would have thought you were a secret merchant of vintage and collectable handbags!? Can you please blag me a Max Mara or Cristobal Balenciaga?

Davie, Sharedow and I have hired a 25 seat minibus and heading to "Bicester Village Designer Outlet" soon for some well-overdue manbag therapy (via Baghdad). There's room aplenty...

Here’s a story to make you laugh…

My best friend bought a yellow/black Mulberry handbag. The first time she used it was on a trip to London.

In a mad panic to catch a tube on the platform she rushed to get on as the doors closed but in said rush the doors closed and trapped the handbag!!

Lots of gesticulation and shouting occurred. My friend was not going to let go!! Even if it meant running with the train she was not going to let it go!

Fortunately someone on the train pushed the door open button and said handbag was duly released WITH A CREASE ALONG THE MIDDLE!! We laughed after but what a trauma at the time

Fortunately someone on the train pushed the door open button and said handbag was duly released WITH A CREASE ALONG THE MIDDLE!! We laughed after but what a trauma at the time "

Laughed?? I would have all the way to Shepton Mallet in Somerset to get it repaired by Mulberry.

"I'd never been much into bags before, opting for cheap and practical. Then I discovered vendula London. Ladies who like quirky bags, have a look!

Ooh yes, I like those. What's the quality like? Is it nice soft leather?

Anuschka do gorgeous handpainted bags, made from beautiful soft quality leather."

They aren't leather. The hardware is super, the embroidered bits will last but with heavy and non careful use I think the printed parts could wear off.

There's a few new ones come out but I dare not look!

The Anuschka bags I bought for me and my mum are definitely leather, but they are also both pre-owned.

With good leather care the colour will still fade but that's to be expected.

Their current selection are leather too. https://uk.anuschkaleather.com/

Ah... that makes sense.

Shame, they look lovely but don't see how they can justify the prices for faux leather, they won't last long.

Yes I thought they were a bit steep for non leather but I just love the designs. If looked after they do hold their value and even appreciate in value as they are limited as some sought after by fans.

I take a bag when I have my camera with me, otherwise I travel light.

A few French letters in my left pocket in case I find some British pastries to fill. And my phone in my right pocket in case I need to call a friend because I got stuck in a lift.

Realised in the week that I could do with at least one. Something small and pretty, just big enough to hold a 5ml purfume sampler, a few condoms, a small lube bottle and another 10ml bottle.

I have a handbag fetish. I used to collect vintage "Enid Collins" bags but sold them on. I have a few of her wooden box bags still. I moved onto vintage brown tooled leather bags. They are hanging all over my walls. If money was no object I'd collect vintage 1950s lucite handbags. They are stupidly expensive in the UK.

I am probably the least girlie girl out there but love a handbag

Radley

Cath Kidson

Animal

The one with the gorilla keyring on them all (can't remember the brand)

My mums old green leather barrel bag which I adore but have never used

Vintage small Gladstone bag - bought from a charity shop (as we're my Radley and CC) but I can't bring myself to use it - it's far too elegant for fat chops me

My favourite though are 2 t bags I have - one a multi compartment (TARDIS) bag, the other a rucksack. Love love love these

Actually thinking about it they are all from charity shops and cost less than £10 each, apart from one or two that were my wife's and she gave to me, in my own embarrassed defence! Some of them were virtually new and would have cost several times that.

"Having traversed the network of the London Underground the other day (or Blunderground, as they never seem to get it right), I noticed the broad spectrum of handbags of all shapes, sizes and colours being proudly carried by women.

So Ladies/Binaries/Whateveries of the Fab Fora: what are your weapons of choice: tote, clutch, purse, messenger, handbag, satchel, shoulder bag; Mulberry, Lonchamp, Hermés, Radley, Prada, Anya Hindmarch, M&S, Next, John Lewis, ...

Don't be shy. Be proud!

"

Heat occasion warrants a different healthy and a different mood you have to have choice so if you want a colourful day you have bright colours if you want a Dark Day you have dark colours if you want practical you get a bigger bag if you want evening and glamorous you have a small clutch bag from a lady who has quite a lot of bags it's not always about the make although quality is important but how the bad makes you feel when it completes your outfit

Sadly not, but a discerning and elegant selection from local charity shops, again, and a couple of my wife's that she gave me, but I have been complimented on them several times by (real) women, so I think that I am doing OK!

Mostly a sensible looking medium sized shoulder bag with multiple sections for

* Wallet, change purse and keys

* Phone, diary, pen, business cards

* Jewellery, makeup, hairbrush

* A couple of condoms for "just in case" (now sadly approaching best before date...)

When out in my male disguise, a slightly more utilitarian looking man bag, with similar contents.

The boot of my car however often contains enough shoes, clothes, makeup, accessories to provide three or even four changes of outfit in an evening...
