Spent the last 20 minutes looking through forum threads and can’t find any I want to contribute to. They all seem so un grown up and childish! I’m guessing it’s just me turning into Victor Meldrew  |

Yup, they've been trying for decades now. The problem is making is containing the plasma and making itself sustaining. The sun uses gravity to contain it, but we have to use big electromagnets. Because the electromegnets are so power hungry and the plasma needs to be very hot to fuse, getting more energy out than is put in has been the other major hurdle. Another liliting factor is that the container suffers with neutron damage quite quickly so it requires replacement all of the time. |
