Has anyone noticed how musicals are aimed at women and concept albums are historically aimed at men.
So after speaking a lot about musicals lately: I have one question?
What blokey film should be turned into a really good musical?
(Tommy and War of the Worlds are two that spring to mind, so it can work)
I want to see the Italian Job and Full Metal jacket at the West End, maybe Rambo as well. Not sure about Rocky though, his words might be a bit hard to comprehend after 13 rounds...

Now you mention it OP, I can't believe I've not seen it before.
Women love Cats. Love a bit of American history, want to find out more about Hamilton. Women love potty mouthed puppets as well, nothing says designed for women like a hand up a fake person singing Everyone's A Little Bit Racist.
Gosh. You're right. You need more men waving guns about in musicals. Men with big cars. More big boobed women being seduced by suave suited men. Where are the musicals for men? |

Bloke film? Romance?
It can be, just like Luc Besson's Leon."

When ever I see Hamilton a certain F1 driver pops into my head.
Maurice Jarre has worked on a film about Grand Prix and I did enjoy Rush.
The climax of the film was great as was the reporter's feedback. |

I’m not a musicals fan but I disagree that they’re aimed at women. I know equal amounts of men and women who love musicals.
We saw Back To The Future at the Adelphi recently and we both absolutely loved it.

How can women make decisions about which manly man man films should be made for musical theatre when they just don't watch such things.
No woman ever watched Rocky or Gone in Sixty Seconds or Dracula or The Dambusters or anything that doesn't have pussy cats and love in it......
The MEN must decide. |

I'm imagining more of a melancholic solo number with Predator singing about his lost love, how his heart is broken and that why he travels to other planets and rips the spines out of the people |

"The Book of Mormon perhaps?
I don't know it."
Two missionaries from the Church of the Latter Day Saints try and convert a remote Ugandan village to the Mormon faith and stop them performing female genital mutilation. Not exactly typical musical plot ! |

"Would love to see the film Bugzy Malone become a musical some day!
It is a musical. Start to finish it's a musical.
Have you seen it? It’s a film. "
A film musical with kids in pedal guns being gangsters and having fun fights at speak easies with splurge guns.
One of my favourite musicals, got some excellent songs in it! |

Sorry mate but I would wholeheartedly disagree that musicals are aimed at women.
They are made for everyone to enjoy. I’m not going to go into the different names of ones that are potentially more “masculine” |

Not often a thread makes us really stop and think. Want to say nooo utter bs. But can't quite. There is a lot of stereotyping within musicals, and the genre itself is expressive, emotive and dramatic - not always "blokey" characteristics. However... there are a groups of men who are very much into it, as well as women who are definitely not. Some of that does follow gender identity. The musicals do tend to have romantic story arcs - even in the middle of wars (Miss Saigon, Les Miserable) - but then life is absolutely full of those stories, and less of alien predators. Ultimately it is about bums on seats. More people (all genders) will pay to be entertained on common ground than niche interests.
Coming soon - FAB - the musical (audio soundtrack in the lobby including hits
"GAWK GAWK me in the morning"
"Queef away your blues")

This is exactly why I posted it: does every musical have to have a romantic arc in it. It seems to ape pop music, where singing about lurve is the default subject. Time to find other subject to write and sing about. |

Honestly, it’s my favourite trilogy ever - I’m a huge MJ Fox fan! I was scared it would suck because we don’t like musicals but it has been done really well! The cast are amazing, the songs are great, it’s funny and entertaining and the ending is spectacular.
I think Ghostbusters would work really well!
