Inventing Anna

After the tinder swindler (that I watched on Friday) it’s time for another total con artist.

Anna Delvey… the fake heiress (I remember hearing about her years ago) who managed to get herself in the prestigious circle of the high society of NYC. somehow she managed to scam people out of lots of money, stay in hotels racking up huge bills, just by creating this rich persona that clearly didn’t exist.

I mean don’t know whether to applaud her for being able to somehow create a plan to raise $40M or what ….

Anyway, is anyone watching the Netflix limited series, inventing Anna?

I’m quite enjoying it and yes it is part fiction, but it’s kinda entertaining to watch

Somewhere in Co. Down

I watched a few episodes and just found it boring and drawn out so have given up on it.

I enjoyed it. Amazed at how she got away with it for so long, duped so many.

Literally duped so many, how could she get away with racking up $30K hotel bills

Also, being bold about it

Keep watching gets worse. She seemed to have such persuasive power, an authority about her that people seemed to believe her over & over

I kinda do believe some people have that persuasive power somehow, they could get people to do anything or make them believe anything … it’s fascinating and scary at the same time

Con people at their finest. Fool everyone around them. That’s why I enjoyed this trying to see how she fooled so many people, in turn attracting some the top people in their fields. I’m still left wondering how they don’t see it, until it started to unravel

Norfuck! / Lincolnshire

I’ve watched Inventing Anna but I also listened to the podcast Fake Heiress on BBC sounds app. I’ve also read Rachel DeLoche Williams book called My Friend Anna. The audio version goes into a lot more detail

I recently read that Anna Sorokin is writing a book whilst incarcerated in prison.

I have no doubt, if she could she will do it all again ….

We watched the first episode last night. I had read about the case a while ago and recognised the actress from Ozark that plays Anna.

Not seen either. But like most con artists . They have to be very convincing. Like some of the ‘Ponzi ‘ schemes from a few years back. ?

I don't get how she got away with it. There's few people I would ask for money but I reckon a couple of grand would be the limit.

Credit card roulette. Imagine.

I don't think Rachel was so innocent. She got so much free. It did take a few episodes to get into it. X

Lingfield

It was excellent and got better as the episodes went on. I also liked the way it was directed. Shonda Rhimes did Bridgerton as well and they both have this slightly quirky but upbeat feel about them.

She was taking the piss! And definitely used Anna’s connections to get what she wanted, even if it meant free dinners x

I haven’t seen it, but can tell you that I’d never be able to pull something like this off. Nobody would believe a word of it, and I’d just end up looking like a total fanny

Agree. She's was very reluctant to disclose figures in court for selling out.

She definitely took a lot off her.

I binged watched it the weekend it came out. Thought it was good and she was great in it. I can't believe she got away with it for so long but I found that her accent changed a few times throughout the programme which I found very grating x

Hahah! Same

Somehow she had a power over people for so long, that she was able to make her lies about being mega wealthy, real

Probably she must have had some delusion of some sort

I really enjoyed the last final episodes with her solicitor
