Afternoon all,

What are your feelings on winking etiquette on here?

My belief is, if someone sends me a wink and I am interested, I will wink back and then it’s up to the person who initiated the winking to message.

Am I wrong to think that? Do the winking initiators think that once they wink, they should be messaged?

One for debate I’m sure.

Sometimes people show an interest by sending a wink, but find it awkward to send the first message.

I generally send a thank yiu message to initiate a conversation.

Thats my stance on it. If I wink and get winked back i'll message. Sometimes i'll message without winking but if theres no response then thats fine.

Do what you feel is right for you without worrying about it. I don't think there is an etiquette as such. I always assume that a wink is an expression of interest and we wink back if we're interested too. 99% of those winks seem to disappear into the abyss

Winking is the last resort when they messaged every profile within 500 miles and got no replies.

I wink when I am actually interested, but my first message game sucks. So I'd hope that they would message reply to my wink

I’m winking right now

If I wink it means I’m interested.

Some do get offended by a winkers!

I think it’s the easier option for us blokes rather then writing a first message to get blanked

I’ve had this happen today.

Got a wink this morning. Checked profile and liked what was there so winked back leaving it up to them to decide what to do next.

Nothing as of yet but time will tell.

No one should expect a reply. A wink is just showing interest.

Some of us are not great with words (dyslexia) , and writing first messages can be difficult at times and that's when I fall back on the trusty wink

Usually South, Currently North

I find the whole wink thing baffling, especially on the couples profile I have with the other half.

The number of times someone has winked so we’ve messaged and they just ignore is odd.

Plus three times now someone has winked, we’ve winked back, they’ve later winked again so we messaged, they ignore and then several months later wink again

Create a first message that you can send to everyone. Copy and paste it and just add some info about why you like their profile.

I guess that's a possibility, knowing me I'd paste the wrong message , and you see people moaning about cooy and paste messages

I wink and then within the hour have probably forgotten that I did.

Anyway, I thought everyone already knew the rules. If wink at someone and they wink back, this seals the contract

Winks are like a bit of old fashioned flirting in a pub.

Some people like them, some don't & they are easy to ignore if needed.

If a guy winks at me I wink back. If a woman winks (still waiting) i wouldn't wink I'd message her.

Interesting! I wonder what the terms of this contract are.

This. Being shy here isn't helpful to either of you.

We wink at those we're interested in as a way of showing we're interested without bothering them but if they wink back we'll message x

I've never sent one, if I'm honest I don't really see the point... That's probably why I don't check mine also.

I see it as a polite way of introducing yourself, but maybe by me being polite, hopefully articulate and a gentleman I get to no interest! Do people appreciate the direct approach?! Doubt it!

I enjoy the rare occasion that I get a wink. If I like their profile then I immediately message, thanking for the wink, then going on to say a little more about me and comments on their profile. I have met some lovely people from Fab all from a little wink.

Please wink away.

A wink is useful when:

A) the profile has pictures but virtually zero text or at least nothing that could be used to start a conversation. In these cases a wink is an invite to them to initiate a conversation, or

B) when I'm in a hurry and I've seen a profile that interests me and will come back later to write something more thoughtful. Although I do forget at times to do the latter.

If you like someone, just send them a msg. Don't bother with a wink.
