Are there any people using fab who have disabilities and that is why they use fab..Mainly because they can’t get out and about or have hidden disabilities.. |

I have hidden disabilities, but that's not why I use fab...
I'm a swinger/poly and that's why I use fab... I just happen to be disabled. I'd hazard that is the same for most of us on fab who are disabled |

It's a disability that isn't obvious by looking at a person. This can be a long term health condition, a chronic pain condition, a learning disability, a mental health condition, sensory or processing issues, being hard of hearing, visual impairment, etc. |

So what term should they use for it.Am curious..I find people I’ve met with this condition to be absolutely lovely kind people who are a bit quirky if that is a correct analysis.. |

Came here a long time before my diagnosis.
Managed to develop a lot of coping mechanisms that made/make me appear normal when on the club and dating scene.
Bloody exhausting and unauthentic though. |

Yeah, basically he helped the Nazis decide which children with apparent difficulties were worth keeping and which weren't. Those with traits which would later be called Asperger's survived, as they were considered just about "normal" enough to be of use. |

Yeah, basically he helped the Nazis decide which children with apparent difficulties were worth keeping and which weren't. Those with traits which would later be called Asperger's survived, as they were considered just about "normal" enough to be of use. "

Yep this... I'm also autistic.
I like fab because I deal much better with textual communication, it gives me time to think over what I'm writing.
I make it clear on my profile that I'm autistic and I'm quite open about it in my communication, no subtext or hidden meaning in my messages. |

I have children with an Aspergers diagnosis. It's still diagnosed in my neck of the woods. You can of course speak for your own preference. But don't speak for anyone with autism.
It’s no longer an official diagnosis on its own though. It’s included in the ASD spectrum. "
Aspergers was removed from the DSM-5 Manual but the NHS uses the ICD. It's thought that when the ICD is updated it will also remove Aspergers. It does depend where and by whom someone was diagnosed in the UK. And of course there still will be thousands of people who have been diagnosed with Aspergers. |

From the 1st of January this year the ICD11 was released which removed the diagnosis of A**ers.
The dismissal of the term has been widely accepted by the autistic community at large, not just because of him being a nazi who focused a large part of his works on eugenics, but because of the fact functioning labels (of which a***ers was) are actually damaging and are often a blocker to support that autistics need.
No, one autistic doesn't speak for all, but many of us aren't comfortable with an allistic person tone policing something that affects us. |

I had missed that change (a matter of weeks). I know several adults and teens with an aspergers diagnosis and I'm on a couple of Facebook groups. I've also joined a parent group and some of the parents have ASD also. I've not seen any of them speak or write about the diagnosis as being damaging or a blocker. If you have some info, I'd be grateful. Not sure what your last sentence meant? |

I believe if you read my post, I was saying that it was medical practitioners who should not be using the term.
As someone who is actually autistic, I would not think to speak for 'anyone with autism.' However, I don't see a problem in sharing information on why many many people are happy to see the end of asperger's as a separate diagnosis. |

There have been numerous *massive* surveys done (even by the hateful Autism Speaks) and they have seen overwhelmingly that those who are actually autistic do not want to be associated with the term Aspergers.
I'd be interested to know what fb groups you're in if this is news to you, or you have not come across any repudiation of functional labels. |

I’m another autistic. Something I only learned about in my 40s as it became apparent to my son’s teachers that he was on spectrum.
I find written communication much easier than face to face, but it’s not really held me back. Aside from difficulties socially as a teen, overall being autistic has been a huge benefit to me. I owe my living to the abilities I possess because of it. |

I amdisabled, mostly hidden ones, or ones that i do my best to hide, life changing ones, but in no way is that why im on fab, ive had anumber of long term girlfriends over the years, and some have swung with me, im good at hiding things so most play mates wouldnt even know |

I didn't read the post that way. I've worked hard with my kids for them to accept their diagnosis and embrace it, I guess I am quite defensive on their behalf. I didn't mean to assume how those with autism would feel. As I said in another post, it's just not something I've come across. |

I've just left one (can't remember the name) but still on Spectrumy. Also one on Sensory issues. Ones aimed at parents. I thought I caught most posts but obviously not. I'm a lone parent so I can't keep up with everything. |
