Just watching Unbelievable on Netflix and wondering... Is it possible to ever get over trauma.
Does every new (even small) trauma trigger the old wound and compound the pain? Or do you scar so badly theres no openness and no way in ...

I would like to think it would be possible to recover from trauma, but imagine it is something you will work on your whole life, it will be an ongoing thing. |

Yes, it can be possible to get over trauma, with the right work.
Trauma is stored in the amygdala, and the amygdala holds emotional trauma, but not the context.
There are some ways to help this somewhat, like deep brain stimulation for example.

I don't think you can ever get truly over trauma I believe they're certain coping mechanisms that help but a certain "trigger" can put you right back as if you were in that situation again (I'm only speaking from experience though) no offence intended |

Have you looked into EMDR? |

I haven’t tried it myself, but I know someone who and, and she was impressed.
It’s Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. Worth a look? |

Possible, yes. Always going to happen, no. Easy, definitely not.
I think of my own trauma like an old injury. Most of the time it's not an issue, but it can be bumped a certain way or set off occasionally. |

It's something I battle with. And have done for a very long time. Lots of coping mechanisms, but there's also plenty of triggers.
There are times when I feel I've got somewhere with it. But then find it's one step forward, two steps back. It's really difficult to break away from. |
