. I was going to say something about smashing some holes in with my club but it sounded rude

That’s not uncommon. A mate of mine learned to play golf left handed because there was a left handed set on special offer.

And Phil michelson learned that play by standing opposite his dad and mirroring his swing, so ended up playing left handed.

I’m left handed at most things but play golf right handed

I love it. Doesn’t make me good at the game, but I really enjoy it. Have played in a dozen or more countries, and it’s good fun getting to play the same courses that the pros play ... like being able to go out in Wembley stadium for a kick about with your mates, or centre court at Wimbledon.
