Tin town

Goths, new romantics, metal head, young soul rebel...

Musical and fashion genres... Such a powerful influence on youth and teenage years...

Which one(s) were you and are you still influenced by any of them?

Punk/New Wave and yes I’m still into that too. I don’t get to gigs that much but there’s a few local bands that I like to go see that are punky. I still lean towards that style of dress too, a bit more conventional now a days though.

No one genre really. I've always looked for who I am and picked up bits along the way.

Forum Mod

East Sussex

I went through a brief period of wearing Sta-prest trousers and a Ben Sherman when I was about 14/15 I also had a trevira suit and a feather cut so I was a wanna be skinhead I suppose. After that I just wore whatever my friends wore until I developed a style of my own at about 19

South Wales

We are still into a mixture of ska, punk and goth music and fashion, slightly toned down though.

Heavy Metal, wearing a bikers jacket, bullet belt, torn jeans and a Thin Lizzy T-shirt. I was motorcycle mad as a teenager so naturally gravitated towards rock music.

I remember watching Quadrophinia and firmly on the side of the rockers .

Still love motorbikes and 80’s (and some modern stuff) rock music.

A mixture really, Heavy Metal, Indie (Stone Roses ect) grunge, folk Rock (Levellers) and Rave. These all happened about the same time and there was alot of crossover. So I'm a product of all of these.

Fareham

I dressed like Tony Hadley crossed with one of The Stray Cats. Most of my teen mates were casuals with mullet hair dos. I didn’t fit in and got my head kicked in a bit.

Violent place Southampton back then for youth.

In my youth I was skinhead/suede/mod, but as I got older didn't really follow any type. I appreciate all types as I liked all types of music

Tin town

I can remember saving up to get my 14 oz tonik mohair made to measure suit... I think it was 60 quid... Thought I was the dogs nuts... I loved that passion for things having to be "just so" for it to be just right... And the live music... Oh my.

Stourbridge

Mark speaking.

I was always a rocker but also got into punk new wave but didn’t go wild in dress trends. Used to ride motorcycles so had the gear for that , mainly going out wore my bike jacket and jeans with white converse “bumpers” which is what we called the basket ball boot style. Then I wore cowboy boots for a while as I could use them on the bike. Work took over so my “overalls” were and are suits and ties.

You'd probably call me a Metalhead, and I wouldn't refute that. I've got exploratory fingers in a lot of pies though.
