Where ever I lay my hat

Why is it you can get brilliant Sunday roasts across the North, decent portions, good food, good value. Whereas in the south its generally rubbish. Rant over

I had a wonderful Sunday roast in Canterbury once. I wasn’t paying though, so it might not have hit the value for money mark.

You can get a good roast in the south but you'll need to take out a loan

I actually got served flat Yorkshires down south, when I asked the manager what he thought of them he said they looked OK

I don't know why you hold that opinion op. I've never had a roast dinner anywhere north of London so I can't comment on relative quality but I am more than happy with what I serve, my mum served and her mum too.

Toby Carvery sent me vouchers after Christmas for 50% off. Had a full roast dinner, piled high, drowning in cranberry sauce for £7. My pint of Guinness nearly cost as much as the dinner.

I do love the differences. The first time I visited mates in London we went to the Cheshire Cheese pub. I got a pint of ale but it was flat. Took a drink and asked the barmaid 'could you top that up please love?'

Now in Yorkshire that means 'ooo this is a bit flat, could you liven it up a bit and get a head on'

But to a nice barmaid from the South I just looked like a tight arse yorkshireman taking a big drink and asking for a free top up.

On a mooch

Had some cracking roasts down south. However, the best was in York where they serve it properly…. two yorkshires with onion gravy and then after that the rest of your roast dinner is served.

Pah! I’m king of the roasts and I’m from Southampton.

I think home roasts are great everywhere. It's the ones you get served out where there is a huge difference. Just my experience but so much better in the North, down south I'm always disappointed.

Oh ok. That's a shame. I've eaten in carveries and I wasn't impressed I have to say.
