How not to look ugly on camera (advice needed)
Jump to: Newest in thread
So, in real life people say I'm quite good looking and some have even said nicer things and I'm very happy with that and have no issues with how I look
However, the instant a camera is on me it's like some kind of ugly filter has been applied and I just want to bin the photo.
Now, if this was just me saying it I could put it down to vanity, but literally everybody I know agrees. So it's not a situation where people are just being kind to my face, it's just a thing that happens to me on camera and my friends, family and me have all just turned it into a running joke. In fact people will try to take the worst photo of me to share on their social media at family events because it really is so funny and I frequently piss myself laughing at the results.
Like I said, I'm far from vain, but if would just be nice for once to have a photo or two of myself that doesn't look like I've just come off a ten hour flight.
I know I'm very none photogenic but surely somebody out there can provide a few tips for me?
If you want too see my face pic just ask, you'll see what I mean.
Cheers me dears x |

There is honestly very little you can do if you are as unphotogenic as you say. I have the same problem and despite angles I use or poses I just don't look as good as I do in person (and that's not all that much anyway). Some people just don't look good when still and frozen in time. Facial expressions and movements are what tend to contribute to our own "better" looks.
Angles, pose, lighting only go so far but thay are at least a start.
Don't do a photo straight on your face, have to slightly to the side, or tilted up or below your face. Natural lighting is best also. Distance from the camera also plays a part. |

Oh Op.
Natural light is always a winner.
You can always take a video then go through that and lift photos through there.
Have a play around with your angles and find out what looks best for you. Even if it takes 101 photos you'll soon learn.
Put on some music that makes you feel happy - the happier and more confident you're feeling, the better your photos will come out.
Make sure your phone lense is as clean as possible.
Or get someone else to take them for you.
Signed,
A very unphotogenic woman who takes a good photo once a year. |

"I’m sorry, I don’t have any advice but wanted to thank you for the laughter.I burst out laughing reading that. "
Excellent !!
My type of man.
If you can't laugh at yourself then you've got bigger issues than your looks in my opinion.

I can't give any advice except try and find your best angle when taking pics .I am the most unphotogenic person I know even my family have told me that I am.I am always envious of people who are photogenic me I just look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards and am caught like a rabbit in the headlights in my pics . |

I have the same issues with ‘ugly filters’. Now I can blame them and not Mother Nature. |

My face looks like a potato every time I'm caught in a family pic. It's depressing. But it is just playing around with angles and light to get a decent selfie. |

Apply filters....
Take a pic with your laptop cam sitting in subdued lighting.
I once took a pic of me in bed to show my daughter my morning face and the red light beaming in gave me a golden glow .... don't do the Meli daylight thing..... in daylight I look like a crocodile.
Aim for something in the middle .... |

Have a go at setting your camera to take a series of photos and then rather than pose just do stuff (look at something else, read something, watch something etc.)
Sometimes people are just shit at posing but look good when they're not. Hopefully that's you |

Ha! Daylight works far better for me, my freckles are clear, my complexion looks good....
You're a very beautiful crocodile anyway Granny, not many could pull off your avatar with such aplomb. |

I like daylight personally. This winter sun with just enough cloud is actually perfect. |

Gracious as ever Meli. I guess I should be grateful that everything falling straightens out the face a little..... |

"I'm watching this one closely, I hate my face pics and would love tips without having bunny ear filters."
The bunny ear one was my saving grace a year ago when a family member wanted a pic.
Maybe I should just invest in a glory hole and be done with it? |

Stand infront of the window during the day for the best light. Make sure the background is clear (this isn't going to help anybodies face but nobody wants to see your clothes strewn across the floor or your pot noodle balancing on the sofa arm, or even the toilet!)
Take different types of photos, smiling, half smile, gurn and choose the best.
Good luck. I feel sorry for those that have seen my face picture. And remember, we're better looking in person. |

And if that doesn't work try it at night instead when it's pitch dark."
I'll have to start doing this |

Sorry to read your pain***(did have a sneaky chuckle about the family being in on it too!)
My advice would be to
A; Wear some sort of sexy eye mask
B; Side profile
C; Do a photo shoot in video
mode, and screen shot a more natural pose
D; Filters do soften feature…. Trust me, these eyes have bags!
E; Don’t worry as your amazing the way you are
Good luck

I feel sorry for my partner and my kids. They're so photogenic. I actually look at their photos afterwards and say, "how did you do that?!"
I've got some great photos of them ruined by this bloke stood next to them who looks like the photographer from After Life! |

I'm married to a gurner.
She's either gurning or fiddling in almost every photo we have. We have to take 15 photos just to get one of her normal face |
