I don’t read enough of the forums to come to any real conclusion. I’m generally just here to twat around and be an idiot. There’s a wonderful array of subject matter, coming from many different folk. All contributing to the fabric of Fab. I you all.

I’m off to pick the splinters out of my arse now, blame the fence in on.

I like the ones with a bit of humorous banter that lift my spirits for sure. I also enjoy the ones that I learn something from that is useful from where to stay to how to make a certain dish to what might be the best wine everyone is drinking. Not fond of those from 'agent provocateurs' though.

Any that's not a thinly disguised LAM?

No, to be honest even those I welcome. I won't pretend every thread is for me, I'm not for every poster. But I do genuinely like the diversity of threads started, the myriad of topics covered - whether it's the aforementioned LAM, a more interesting discussion based thread or one designed to be as genuinely inclusive as possible (the nocturnal threads). Or someone clearly wanking. I don't quite understand some but I'm glad they're all posted. The fora would quickly become rather stale if they weren't.

I'd love to see some new posters. It seems that of all the thousands of people who use Fab...only a minority use the forums so you get the same things day in day out.

Problem I've noticed with new posters though is they can sometimes get ridiculed by long term forum users which is horrible to see x

All right, seriously? Without sounding wishy-washy, I enjoy looking through the threads and the variety on offer.

I'd love to peak into Busman's and Essex Tom's minds. I can imagine Busman on his routes with those endless thoughts going through his mind and Essex Tom peering through the news pages thinking 'this is BIG. I have to share it in the Forum immediately!'

Yes, I'm not sure how people do it to be honest. And I'm not talking about people who reply to a couple of their friends, I mean the people* who give it all to a thread - replying to everyone, asking about them or discussing a topic, friend or not. It's bloody impressive - so thank you Erect Jim, Ash, Midnight, MissDreavus with her thread all about others (can't remember title) and when the photo challenge runs, the group who take the time to try and include people genuinely.

* you don't have to reply to every post. It doesn't mean your thread isn't as good as others who do so, obviously. I'm reserving the right to admire those who do though.

I've started threads on topics like Gaslighting - if someone replies and shares I feel I need to acknowledge them. That they've been heard. Less serious ones - I just pitch in every now and again to keep it going.

Ah yes, I remember a few threads on more serious topics where you've done so. I like that you do, if someone shares something sensitive/heartfelt I think it's

nice it is acknowledged. It's hard to explain. For daft ones, you don't need to.

To be honest, I don't think people *need* to be inclusive and there are many reasons they're not. Not every thread requires it.

I was so tempted to do they're/there/their but I behaved.

Anyway, I'm waffling on a tangent. Still don't have a favourite/best.

I agree. However I can see why many are put off. I’ve popped back over the years with different accounts and different names.

When I’ve posted as a relative newbie under each account a lot of threads get no traction at all, lots of single unrecognised males do go ignored.

Or indeed, in many cases, treated scornfully. I’ve been told quite bluntly (by someone lauded as wonderful and sorely missed as they were -*so nice*) that “nobody cares what you think” and “get lost” .. now I’d understand if what I’d said was horrible or controversial but it wasn’t. It was just because I was new (or so I suppose).

That's horrible, and this can be a huge problem and it puts people off posting. I've had people say to me that they were actually too nervous too post on here as a newbie which is a real shame. This should be a place where everyone feels welcome.

I kind of agree with this, rarely is the thread creator the single one to make a thread what it is. A lot of the time (not all) the OP rarely contributes past a couple of posts within. Some of the more mediocre OP have ended up as really decent topics because of the responses of others.

I've seen this often. I've been on the site for 5 years and on the forums almost 3 years. I posted regularly here and in the Irish forums and it took almost 18 months before anyone in here even acknowledged a comment I made. I got a better reception in the Irish forums and that is the only reason I still use the forums at all. If I had been relying on my interaction in the Lounge alone I would have given up a long time ago.

It's all fine and well saying that no one "owns" the forums but there seems to be some confusion between the words "productivity" and "popularity".

There are many so called popular posters who are lauded for their productivity levels and how inclusive they are but I'm struggling to see exactly how they have managed to create this illusion of inclusiveness when they are obviously anything but.

I know who the predators and illusionists are in the Irish forums because it's a much smaller community but I'm genuinely surprised at the level of gullibility in here at times.

For me it's the ones that cause you to try something new and they sometimes change hands (the what tunes thread currently curated by mrmojorising/tmontana is a fave)

Also the ones that get everyone playing - Fab is like a pub, and my favourite landladies by far are Nora (secret service) Posh (my mate fancies you) and Angie (tease the ladies)

Give newbs a chance!!

"

That's definitely true. My moto is, if I post something that's helpful to you will be nice to acknowledge and of course vice versa too. I definitely try to do that unless I have noticed its someone who don't particularly want any association with due to mostly inappropriate comments they have made before. I know someone said earlier why block someone just from comments in the forums but I don't want to accidentally 'talk' to anyone who holds abhorrent views or have been abusive in other threads. You would not want that in real life so why would you want it here.

"For me, there is no "best" thread creator. There are people I enjoy reading sometimes, people I don't. But on the whole it tends to be a group effort to create the "best" threads, and to create the forum of any given day.

I'm also a sucker for a photo challenge/demand "

I've really enjoyed the favourite songs from a particular decade threads in the past. I love old music so I enjoy contributing to them and I've discovered some awesome new songs from them. Gemini man often posted some really good lists in those threads

"Do we have a definitive answer yet?"

Surely looking for the definitive answer would be akin to looking for the best cog in the apparatus?

They ALL contribute equally for the well-oiled machine called the "Fab Forums".

Does it matter who starts the thread? I never even notice.

Well-oiled? Is that a euphemism?

"People who start threads and then read and respond to the comments get my vote.

Nothing worse than a thread starter who abandons their creation. "

I used to start threads but this is one of the reasons I don't anymore.

I used to pose a question or comment for a debate. I wanted to read people's opinions and thoughts and maybe have my opinion changed. Like in a pub, a group of people chatting. If I replied to every post it would feel like I was hogging the conversation.

(I understand some heartful threads need the OP to reply to all.)

"Does it matter who starts the thread? I never even notice. "

Not usually if the subject is something you want to comment on. But recently I do not knowingly comment on posts that started by someone who has been vile in other posts or it's obvious is someone who likes to instigate controversy and quite often abandons the thread once the fires are well and truly lit. I don't want to feed their sad lives in anyway. I like a nice, stress free time when I am on here

You don't need to respond to every post, but some contribution yes.

The grenade style OP is the worst as somebody else said.

This is how I see it too. Very often if the OP continuously replies it becomes about them and not about the topic. Depending on the subject it can be seen as narcissistic on the part of the OP and is often a much better thread when their contributions are kept to a minimum.

This is especially true in a kiss fuck thread.

If the subject is deliberately loaded and launched I agree. Otherwise, see above.
