"Perhaps I'm just being an old git but does anyone else that agree that young girls of today are ruining their bodies? Fake boobs. . fake lips. . Tattooed eye brows. . Arms and legs inked up. I blame the likes of Love Island giving them false hope of Fame and Fortune if they conform to " the look " give me a natural looking gal all day long" Maybe stop looking at young girls then.

Give me and natural looking gal.... Contrary to popular belief, females don't style themselves for male service or pleasure. We're not scenery. You don't have to comment if someone's taste or style doesn't match your own, you just move on with your day.

I blame the likes of Love Island giving them false hope of Fame and Fortune if they conform to " the look " give me a natural looking gal all day long" "Fake boobs" have been around for a long time, breast augmentation is not a new concept. "Fake lips" pretty much the same as above, not a new concept not first done by the younger generation. Permanent make up is science and discoveries moving forward. Tattoos, Definitely not a new concept. I don't think the issue is "young girls these days" when most of these procedures have been around a long time. Some people need tattooed eyebrows because they've lost their body hair, Some people's natural boobs tried to kill them, Some people's "fake lips" could be a recovery from a terrible accident. Doesn't matter the age of the person, their body, their choice and our bodies don't always give us a choice.

"I don't think they're ruining their bodies. Their choice and if it brings them happiness, more play to them. What I do think is sad is peer pressure to conform* to a particular look or feeling like they're not attractive if they look different. That's sad but that's been going on for decades, even when I was a young 'un. *I'm not saying *all* women who have enhanced breasts, tattoos etc feel that way. " Aye, it does seem (to me, at least) there’s definitely pressure from social media such as Instagram etc that to (appear to) be happy and “living your best life” that you have to not only look but act a certain way, and if you don’t conform then you’re missing out. Much of it is just an act and unrepresentative of their “real life” yet makes “normal” people feel inadequate! Anyway. Topic drift. Sorry OP!

"It’s their body and their choice. They seem so much more well groomed and sophisticated than the gals back in my day, the only thing we did was have a perm and spray a gallon of that pump spray hairspray on that was supposed to be ozone friendly and wear blue mascara But times change, as to do trends. Thankfully, some might say! " Omg that takes me back! I used to wear blue mascara when I was a teenager lol

I blame the likes of Love Island giving them false hope of Fame and Fortune if they conform to " the look " give me a natural looking gal all day long" I don't like the modern "look" but I imagine they're not keen on the 80s bubble perm and electric blue mascara I wore as a teenager. As for "fake" boobs... my mother-in-law has them... it's definitely not an age thing. I do my thing and am happy for others to do theirs.

I've worked with young women of 22,23 who have started getting botox and fillers. Some of them, IMO, look worse for it. But they don't need to justify or explain it to anyone else. They probably look at me and think I could do with a shit load of work on my face.

But each to their own, and if it makes them happy and makes them feel beautiful all the more power to them I guess.

Digitally enhanced photos, perfect lighting and surgery itself are all making young girjs feel the need to go under the knife Their body their choice, obviously. But we can’t deny that there’s some negative mental health issues at hand here too " Agreed, the pressure to look a certain way can cause a lot of mental health issues especially later down the line.

You literally have to have surgery to look like them, and that’s behind they’ve digitally enhanced all their photos I really feel for people these days with body issues For girls it can feel like the knife is the only way. Too big, too small, too wobbly, not wobbly enough, nothing feels right. Feeling like your siesta being judge (and I’m sure much more, I’m only speaking as a guy) For men it’s the fitness magazines and movie stars that are taking steroids and not telling anyone. Making you believe you just need a protein powder and their workout plan to look like them. But you never will unless you inject synthetic hormones into your body. It’s rough out there

"OP: How's the thread going for you? OMG!! He has an opinion of his own that goes against the accepted “right think”. Let’s castigate him!" To be fair as is with the case a lot of these things come down to more about the way things are said than the opinion. This came up the other day and instead of just saying "I'm not a fan of it, what do others think?" it is worded in ways that have to just take a dig at what they don't like. There will always be people that get defensive about such subjects but it is so simple just to show respect and be polite to others on the other end of your view and opinion. You can have your opinion without putting others down. If anyone then has issue with your view, that's on them because at least you were not instigating aggression.

He has put his initial view across, but hasn’t put any more input into the discussion or responded to any feedback or any rebuttal. This OP has started a thread and done a “disappearo” for the entirety of the thread before… just saying.

He could have written it in a way to encourage discussion but instead chose to castigate young women as "ruining their bodies". It's judgmental and negative - people tend to react to that.

Most women seem to answer rugby types with big thighs and a few extra pounds to hold onto. Few said six pack, skinny and feminine looking model types. So to the women out there, what do you think men are looking for when it comes to the physical beauty of women? Men, keep out of it for now, let the ladies have their say. I know I've been attracted to men who are rugby player build but my current partners are tall and slim though they're quite different in appearance.

"It's a weird one, because I'd really like breast implants for mine to look natural as in my mind they look unnatural... Naturally. Brain's are very complicated and we are our own harshest critic. I guess what I'm trying to say is that natural is probably what most people strive for when getting surgeries and procedures. One day it might be all so popular that it is what is deemed natural. " This is an excellent point. People who express a preference for a natural appearance want "a natural appearance that conforms to accepted standards of beauty". I'm probably as guilty of that as anyone though I must confess.

To be fair to the OP though, I’m guessing he’s referring to the look that a lot of the late teen / early 20’s are rocking these days, you know the Insta model / TOWIE type look, rather than those with exceptional medical needs. In my opinion if they feel pressured to live up to those standards that's on the previous generations that created this world, not on them. Maybe! I have my own opinions on reality tv, print media, social media, the internet, peer pressure, porn as well as the actions of multiple generations over time on the impact on mental health and well-being etc but trust me we really haven’t got the time for me to go into it! Maybe I should write a book and publish it! " People also have tattoos to cover scars too.

I kind of agree with that but for me it is more to do with the media and what they portray as being normal. They only have articles about body image to sell newspapers or magazines.

And prosthetic limbs to offset the loss of an arm and leg. I’m sure we could go on!

"I'm thinking of getting a tattoo because I really like how it would look on me (some thin inked spooky-cute stuff on my upper thighs and my belly). Why should I not get it?" Some people might not like the tattoo. I'm sure you will say that you're not bothered about other people's opinions but there's lots of folk who claim to do things "for them" and are then outraged that it doesn't meet with universal approval. Not saying that's your case but people who do things that they like (but other people don't) often think that entitles them to praise and support and won't accept other views. It's a strange world.

I mean, I don't exoect everyone to like it, anything I do there will be people who don't like it. But from that to people saying I have "ruined" my body, quite a stretch.

Society as a whole allowed that trend to take hold and build a deep root. The kardashians didn't put a gun to people's heads and dictate "this is the way".

" I have pierced ears and dyed hair but otherwise no alterations unless you count removing body hair and make up. I know a handful of people with breast implants and a handful of people who have lip fillers or microbladed eyebrows but they're both semi permanent. All the people I know who have had significant facial plastic surgery are in their 40s and 50s. I guess due to age but also actually having the disposable income for it. I think some of you are consuming far too much "influencer" content and forgetting that the majority of us don't have thousands of pounds lying around and if we did we'd use it to buy houses.

"Okay, I'm in my mid 30s and I don't have a single friend who has had plastic surgery or Botox or lip fillers or suchlike. I'm not even sure any of my friends have tattoos. Maybe really small ones? One had laser eye surgery (!) and there's the odd nose or naval piercing. I'm not seeing a bunch of Millennials chopping and changing themselves. I do, however, know quite a few older women who've had breast augmentation, fillers and other such things. Perhaps I have really weird friends?! Or maybe we don't watch or care about the Kardashians? I've not even dyed my hair, FFS " I don't have a single close friend who has had a boob job. I've encountered maybe 3-4 people of a similar age. The main person I know who has lip fillers is our lead nurse and she's in her mid 40s. I have a few random old school friends who do them for a job who may have them themselves but I'm not 100% sure. I do know a lot of people with a lot of tattoos but they're of all ages. One was a lecturer at my college . A midwife I know also has two full sleeves and I'm not sure how old she is but she has a teenage daughter.
