Perhaps I'm just being an old git but does anyone else that agree that young girls of today are ruining their bodies? Fake boobs. . fake lips. . Tattooed eye brows. . Arms and legs inked up. I blame the likes of Love Island giving them false hope of Fame and Fortune if they conform to " the look " give me a natural looking gal all day long

I do wonder though whether making such permanent and lasting modifications at a young age will lead to later life regrets for some. I guess we will see in a decade or two as this is a relatively new phenomenon (for it to be mainstream anyway) over the last few years.

But it’s their life, their choice.

Me? No ink, no piercings etc, but then again I’m just boring!

I don't think they're ruining their bodies. Their choice and if it brings them happiness, more play to them.

What I do think is sad is peer pressure to conform* to a particular look or feeling like they're not attractive if they look different. That's sad but that's been going on for decades, even when I was a young 'un.

*I'm not saying *all* women who have enhanced breasts, tattoos etc feel that way.

I don't particularly find the look (I think) you are describing particularly attractive, but maybe they do - and I am also old.. Nor do I seek out young people for sex or relationships

Fake boobs are hardly a new thing nor is 'permanent makeup'

I don't mind tattoos either.

Any of those things can look great on some people and awful on others. Nine times out of ten probay down to the skill of the surgeon/artist.

The only thing I'm not too sure about is the whole lip filler thing. I'm sure when it's done properly it should just look 'normal' but I do see a few people looking like they're having an allergic reaction to something.

I think people do get addicted to aesthetic treatments though and it's possible that some actually increase body dysphoria rather than decrease it which is meant to be the whole point.

"Fake boobs" have been around for a long time, breast augmentation is not a new concept.

"Fake lips" pretty much the same as above, not a new concept not first done by the younger generation.

Permanent make up is science and discoveries moving forward.

Tattoos, Definitely not a new concept.

I don't think the issue is "young girls these days" when most of these procedures have been around a long time.

Some people need tattooed eyebrows because they've lost their body hair,

Some people's natural boobs tried to kill them,

Some people's "fake lips" could be a recovery from a terrible accident.

Doesn't matter the age of the person, their body, their choice and our bodies don't always give us a choice.

Aye, it does seem (to me, at least) there’s definitely pressure from social media such as Instagram etc that to (appear to) be happy and “living your best life” that you have to not only look but act a certain way, and if you don’t conform then you’re missing out. Much of it is just an act and unrepresentative of their “real life” yet makes “normal” people feel inadequate!

I’m not a young girl, but I’ve got piercings and 18 tattoos, getting another one on Monday in fact, but I’ve done these things for me no one else. My body is a canvas so I’m decorating it with tattoos that I like and mean something. It’s my body, my choice and imo if you don’t like it, don’t look but keep your opinions to yourself I probably don’t like the way you dress

Most look better with some work when they have it done. Some probably go a touch too far with the lips and over botoxed face.

So generally the tweaks help them with how they feel about themselves. And myself love a tweaked lady.

As for "fake" boobs... my mother-in-law has them... it's definitely not an age thing.

This is the reason women choose to change themselves in the first place. There is already judgement and pressure to look a certain way by society in general. There will always be someone ready to put you down if they aren't seen as your 'ideal' person.

Do whatever makes you comfortable, dress however you want to dress, wear make up or don't.. just be you that's all that matters.

I seriously doubt they care what a 53yr old guy thinks...maybe harsh but true.

I've worked with young women of 22,23 who have started getting botox and fillers. Some of them, IMO, look worse for it. But they don't need to justify or explain it to anyone else.

They probably look at me and think I could do with a shit load of work on my face.

Yeah fair do’s, it was more a general observation of the whole thread really, I could have said that to anyone or not quote replied to anyone in particular rather than have a go at you specifically

I have a bit of sympathy with the OP to be fair, while I agree it’s absolutely their choice what they do with their bodies it’s not a look I like personally, and personally I prefer the more natural look too rather than all this plump lips, painted on eyebrows, Botox and lots of foundation look.

But each to their own, and if it makes them happy and makes them feel beautiful all the more power to them I guess.

Each to their own. I'm not a huge fan of tattoos but in certainly not against them. It suits that person and is an expression of their personality.

I don't think there is any difference from someone looking at me and seeing a late middle aged guy using product to cover my grey hair. I do it for me and only me, it makes me feel good.

It may not be that person's choice, tough, it is mine and only mine.

I do fear that some people do certain things so that they fit in. But if it is their choice I don't have a problem with it.

I'm not a fan of the Love Island aesthetic either but my preferences for women's appearance were probably fixed in my early adolescence and haven't really updated.

As others have said, it's a case of young people following trends to fit in with their peers. Not a new phenomenon. Much like middle-aged men struggling to adapt to the mores of the younger generation

My mam massively regrets following the fashion as a teen/young adult of having really thin eyebrows. Especially as she's gotten older and they're a bit more sparse than ever. We all follow trends i guess some are lasting others not. But it's down to each individual, as long as they know the potential pitfalls and issues all is well.

Look for the positives, and don't criticise people for doing perfectly legal, personal choice things. There are plenty people here who don't have modifications, but they might not be so keen to meet someone with a judgemental streak.

It’s a good start. But we have a long way to go. Look at the biggest fashion/makeup family in the world. The kardashians. You literally have to have surgery to look like them, and that’s behind they’ve digitally enhanced all their photos

I really feel for people these days with body issues

For girls it can feel like the knife is the only way. Too big, too small, too wobbly, not wobbly enough, nothing feels right. Feeling like your siesta being judge (and I’m sure much more, I’m only speaking as a guy)

For men it’s the fitness magazines and movie stars that are taking steroids and not telling anyone. Making you believe you just need a protein powder and their workout plan to look like them. But you never will unless you inject synthetic hormones into your body.

It's a weird one, because I'd really like breast implants for mine to look natural as in my mind they look unnatural... Naturally.

Brain's are very complicated and we are our own harshest critic.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that natural is probably what most people strive for when getting surgeries and procedures. One day it might be all so popular that it is what is deemed natural.

To be fair as is with the case a lot of these things come down to more about the way things are said than the opinion.

This came up the other day and instead of just saying "I'm not a fan of it, what do others think?" it is worded in ways that have to just take a dig at what they don't like. There will always be people that get defensive about such subjects but it is so simple just to show respect and be polite to others on the other end of your view and opinion.

You can have your opinion without putting others down. If anyone then has issue with your view, that's on them because at least you were not instigating aggression.

Not against it, their body their choice of course but I wonder how much research and input has been put into the psychological aspect, exploring the reasons for wanting the modifications.

I know of someone who is severely disfigured by the effects, the more she had the more she wanted and these companies were more than happy to take her cash

I started a thread asking what men should physically look like in order appeal to women.

Most women seem to answer rugby types with big thighs and a few extra pounds to hold onto. Few said six pack, skinny and feminine looking model types.

So to the women out there, what do you think men are looking for when it comes to the physical beauty of women?

I think men like women to be confident in their looks most of all. A fair number of men here seem to like curvier, larger women. As there are thousands of men here I couldn't possibly assume what they all like.

If they are happy that's the main thing. I'm not going to lie though, it does make me sad to know so many women feel like they aren't good enough and feel like they have to change their appearance. But it's their body and their choice at the end of the day. I just wish the world wasn't so judgemental when it came to how someone looks.

It very much seems to depend entirely on the man. Some can be attracted to women who are physically very different from each other too. I guess we don't all have only one type. I know I've been attracted to men who are rugby player build but my current partners are tall and slim though they're quite different in appearance.

To be fair to the OP though, I’m guessing he’s referring to the look that a lot of the late teen / early 20’s are rocking these days, you know the Insta model / TOWIE type look, rather than those with exceptional medical needs.

I personally love tattoos on a man. If I was guy then maybe I'd love them on a woman too.

Altering bodies isn't necessarily about achieving the 'look'. It's about self confidence. We all alter ourselves in some way or another. The clothes we choose, our hair, perfume or aftershave...what's the difference?

Some people might not like the tattoo. I'm sure you will say that you're not bothered about other people's opinions but there's lots of folk who claim to do things "for them" and are then outraged that it doesn't meet with universal approval.

I have pierced ears and dyed hair but otherwise no alterations unless you count removing body hair and make up. I know a handful of people with breast implants and a handful of people who have lip fillers or microbladed eyebrows but they're both semi permanent. All the people I know who have had significant facial plastic surgery are in their 40s and 50s. I guess due to age but also actually having the disposable income for it. I think some of you are consuming far too much "influencer" content and forgetting that the majority of us don't have thousands of pounds lying around and if we did we'd use it to buy houses.

Okay, I'm in my mid 30s and I don't have a single friend who has had plastic surgery or Botox or lip fillers or suchlike. I'm not even sure any of my friends have tattoos. Maybe really small ones? One had laser eye surgery (!) and there's the odd nose or naval piercing. I'm not seeing a bunch of Millennials chopping and changing themselves. I do, however, know quite a few older women who've had breast augmentation, fillers and other such things.

Perhaps I have really weird friends?! Or maybe we don't watch or care about the Kardashians? I've not even dyed my hair, FFS

I don't have a single close friend who has had a boob job. I've encountered maybe 3-4 people of a similar age. The main person I know who has lip fillers is our lead nurse and she's in her mid 40s. I have a few random old school friends who do them for a job who may have them themselves but I'm not 100% sure. I do know a lot of people with a lot of tattoos but they're of all ages. One was a lecturer at my college

. A midwife I know also has two full sleeves and I'm not sure how old she is but she has a teenage daughter.
