"I haven’t, but I’m guessing it’s along the lines of a catfish or conman.
Am I close? "
Yep but on a huge scale! I find it difficult to grasp tbh I’d never give a man my money especially not the amounts they gave |

I can’t fathom it either. Have you seen Puppet Master on Netflix? That’s another head-scratcher for the same reasons |

I'm watching it now. I watched puppet master last week.
There's only three people in life I'd give money. I never get why people buy into being asked for money by a strange man.
The first woman, when she was practically licking her lips finding he's a billionaire, I thought who is the swindler? |

I give money to my kids and that’s it! How the hell do you give 250k to a guy you’ve only known a few months. It’s harsh but I feel like these girls only liked him because they thought he was rich! |

Just watched it....it took my breath away. The man made them believe they were in love, and that he was in danger. Millions of people would do anything to protect the person they believe is their soulmate x |

I might watch from my sick bed tomorrow. I agree as to why people hand over money. That said, some such scams draw in older people and they can be very vulnerable to such things and I can understand why and how elderly people can easily be scammed. |

Haven't seen it yet, but definitely going too, as I find it fascinating...
Some of the victims of this type of crime, are professional people - successful business people, teachers, nurses etc.
I can't help but think, that deep down they know it's a scam, but still cling on to the hope that it's not.

I watched it last night.... I'm wondering if they'll ever be able to get some kind of justice for what he did
It was mind-blowing.. I couldn't live under that kind of pressure... But i guess that's why I've not scammed £10m!
I really feel for his victims.. I missed when it took place, was it fairly recent? |

It might take a while to get to court. The person I know, it's been going on for about 6/7 years. |

"I just watched it. Bloody hell. Kudos to the Dutch lady for dobbing him in but I find it astounding that other jurisdictions haven't prosecuted him "
I found it astounding how she could keep getting loans and increasing her credit card... Surely even if you were earning $94k a month (!) there would need to be some evidence in terms of money being deposited for a period, say 3 months??! The due diligence seemed really lacking.. Perhaps that is something that the UK is better at? |

The due diligence was definitely lacking, especially when the payslips being submitted were in the name of the diamond company that allegedly, AmEx already knew to be potentially involved in fraud! |

"There are plenty of lady’s doing this to guys and they get away with it"
They shouldn't. No-one should be able to scam money from other people, for any reason. Gender irrelevant. It happens to elderly people for various reasons too. |

I’ve watched and thought it was brilliant, it’s hard for one to believe how they got taken in, but then when you see the lifestyle he portrayed, it is understandable…. I’d recommend x |

I watched it & enjoyed it
But I just don't understand how people are so stupid, it's so obviously fuelled by greed and the love of a materialistic lifestyle
There was a case last year where some guy posed as Olly Murs & conned a couple of women out of around a quarter of a million quid |

It was a good programme.
People will do anything for love and love is blind. Strong people fall into abusive dynamics of all kinds, because empaths see the good in people, they want to believe that despite flaws, people are inherently good and the love is real.
Marriages for visas, love for money frauds happen a lot... Its truely sad. Policing and punishment for it needs improvement/attention too |
