How easy is it to remove a few conifers from the garden? They have been there for many years but never let them grow above 80cm or so. They look and feel quite strong though. Will someone be ale to remove without heavy machinery as access is limited? I am getting conflicting answers at the moment. Any advise? |

Yes someone said that it is small as conifers usually grow to several meters high. I was told that if they have been kept short they the roots will not be as deep and quite possibly easyish to remove. |

Thanks, hopefully someone will. Yes you can cut very low and then try to kill the stumps I believe but I rather they were pulled out as would like to refresh the soil and plant the area with other stuff. |

Dig around the roots and light a fire around them to dry out the sap...which makes it easy to chop or saw the roots..there will be a central root which will be the last one to chop at before pulling out the whole root. |

Trim the branches off with either lopping shears or a bow saw if you have either, then cut the trunk about 8 inches or so from the ground. Now slowly dig all around the stump, expose all the roots you can and use the 8 inches of trunk (steady now) to lever the stump back and forth. You might find you've missed a root if it doesn't start to give way quickly.
It's hard going buy doable. I took out about 9 stumps that way not too long ago, and my conifers were maybe 10 feet or so high. |

The roots on them are easy to cut dig around the area find and cut get a hirer a hand ratchet and toe rope and pull and cut I have used this method a few times and make sure not pulling to the house garage green house etc you can hire the things or ask someone if used in work |

Thank you all, really appreciate all the suggestions so far. Tbh, it will not be me doing it. I will get someone in to do it and made enquiries already. I just wanted to know if doable as one of them so far said yes and will charge me £300 for a day's work to remove them (6 of them). The other one said he might have to hire a little digger but access is not easy and worry about that and not something I want to do. |
