Ong todya I have done my first work mistake in 2 years - sent the wrong file to the wrong client. I held my hands up and confirmed I had made a mistake. Just feel sick as I have never done it before and it was just me trying to find a very similar named file and I sent the wrong one
Going to be a nervous wreck - I won’t be the first person to do that

I dropped a rather large bollock a number of years back. Moving an industrial printing press, I had it loaded onto the back of my lorry. It was only moving 200 yards down the road, it was heavy, I thought ‘no problem, I’ll chuck the tarp’ over it and just nip down the road with it.
Yep you guessed it, it ended up on the floor, a pile of scrap. I’d neglected to tighten the straps holding it down.  |

Some years ago I used to book residential training. We used 2 sites 160ish mile apart. Once I booked a group of 16 students one a course at one site but accommodation at the other one. Mistake was only noticed the Friday before when everyone had gone home for the weekend and of course the original site accommodation qas full... |

I once ran the wrong process on the membership database, instead of clearing a field it deleted all the records with the marker in that field; about 2500 records. There was a back up run every night but it overwrote the previous one. I had only been there 6 months. Fortunately the manager had taken an offline back up a couple of days earlier and we were able to update with the info that had come in during the two days after that.
I left the job after 15 years. |

In tech I am forever double checking everything I do. Test and test some more is the order of the day. I think the worst thing I've done was import data into a new system without checking it was up to date. It was old test data. Luckily a long nights work sorted it out. For emailing, I never send straight away. I save to draft first to ensure it's definately what's required. |

I sent a £20k hose to the skip instead of the repair yard, where of course it was duly cut up with the efficiency of the SS on a raid. I was only part of the problem though, as it was a bit of a Swiss cheese affair, but ultimately it was my blame. |

OP, I discovered a similar "wrong file" mistake that I'd made. It was also too late to stop it and the wrong file was distributed for use and was used. It's all come out in the wash, but I was mortified. No-one has berated me for it though. Well, apart from my assistant - a person who can't ever admit to making a mistake and always blames something/someone else |

I airfreighted a large number of spare parts into Gatwick at great expense for something that wasn't sold in this country . This was 40 years ago and I still break out in a cold sweat when I remember it |

In my first jib, back when I was a teen, I pressed 200 on the photocopy machine when it should have been 20.
Had a bit of a panic as the boss was standing behind me talking to a client.
I had to say excuse me, where's the cancel button.
I was new, had never seen a photocopier before and had one minute of training on it, where he had forgotten to show me the cancel button.

Mistakes are natural, but in today culture we are made to feel like mistakes are completely unacceptable.
The blame culture in most if not all workplaces are to blame for lots of stress and an increase in poor mental health. |

I once wiped the entire delivery schedule for a supermarket chain
Took IT 3 days to rebuild it and affected the deliveries from 12 depots for about a week |

Measured out a footing for a new house and went to the wrong side of the tape measure. Subsequently the house was 4 inches wider than it should of been. Not a problem till the roof spars didn’t fit  Joiner did me a favour and notched the wall plate for each spar and quickly covered the mistake. Phew |

Hey mistakes happen don’t worry at all, use it as a learning curve,
I’ve had lots jobs and made many mistakes, my biggest two are I wrecked the whole side of a brand new lorry 3 days after the company got it and another i left the lid off a wood chip boiler and nearly burned the place to the ground, I held my hands up admitted to it. both times I was called stupid by Managment and told that it was my last day but they always calmed down and told me not to worry. What I’m trying to say Is don’t worry about your mistakes just refocus and move on  |

I made an amusing point using the Research Director's hair as an example. Luckily he found it funny too.
I also drove an old tractor in to the back of an other at relatively high speed. He had better brakes and I'd forgotten I had 2 tons of hops in my trailer. Apparently his face was quite a picture as he pulled up to let someone out of a turning only to be slammed in to from behind. So to speak...

Nothing major, well the employees would have been happy but not the bosses…. one year I nearly gave everyone a 20% pay rise instead of 2% thankfully before I submitted the change, it gave me the total balance increase which was way, way over budget |

A team mistake but I delivered it. Told someone the wrong outcome of their psychiatric diagnostic assessment. They wanted the yes, the team had accidentally put yes on the report, I fed back a yes, and it was actually a no 
Much chaos ensued.
I was the most junior member in the team but still feel like I should have noticed the errors! |

My dad dropped my first wedding cake on the m floor. We stood in the pantry giggling for ages before we called the dog in the clear up the evidence and put the cake back. |

Not me personally, but a predecessor in my job had a request for a gross of a particular item (for those of you too young to know, a gross is 144). He put 144 on the order but forgot to remove the gross. The supplier duly delivered 144 gross!

Not cecessarily a mistake but a while back was doing an email for all staff and I was in a hurry and made 2 or 3 spelling mistakes. Nothing particularly bad or anything that affected the content. I must have received in excess of 15 emails back pointing to the mistakes which to be fair I thought was quite astonishing. I never, ever send one now without triple checking first. |

That happened to someone I was supervising once. I had told them repeatedly that they needed to specify the units the goods were to be delivered in. I was on holiday, my boss signed the order off. This was over 30 years ago, they're probably still using the stuff |

In a previous place of work, a few of the staff there would prank each other, nothing too serious, usually hiding and jumping out on each other to try give a good fright 
So while I relieved a staff member to go on their break, I was on a secure unit (very quiet at the time). I saw mentioned member of staff heading back to the unit and decided to hide behind the locked door. Just as the door was opening and a pair of feet stepped across the doorway, I jumped out, made a loud noise to be greeted by my manager, a GP and a trainee doctor....

I think that's absolutely spot on. I've dropped a few clangers in work, it happens, I'm/we're all human. Just put you're hand up, admit you've made the mistake and learn from it. Thankfully I don't recall too much financial damage, which given the nature of my work could easily run into tens of thousands, but it's very easily done. |
